I am pleased that New York Road Runners decided to cancel tonight’s 2026 New York Marathon drone show. As Manhattan Borough President and Council Member, I have written Parks requesting that drone shows should never be given a permit during bird migration season - it’s avoidable and irresponsible when it’s likely to result in bird injuries or deaths. And today cancelling the drone show is important because the barn owl family is nesting across the street from where the drone show was scheduled. We must and can do better to protect wildlife throughout our city.

Congrats to NYC Bird Alliance for all of their advocacy.

And to all of Sunday’s runners, you got this!
