Today, I was honored to host Commissioner Shimamura for a walkthrough of our district’s parks. We were joined by Nicole from , who works hard to keep our parks clean with her volunteer crew.

My district has so many beautiful community resources in our parks — rec centers, two public pools, diverse community programming — but as a largely working-class outer-borough community, we haven’t always gotten our fair share of resources. I’m looking forward to working alongside Commissioner Shimamura and her team to overcoming some of those historical inequities and strengthening our community resources.

We visited Sunset Park, Milestone Park, and Garibaldi Playground, but were lucky to have time to address the concerns of residents across our district, and receive important updates on ongoing projects.

NYC Against Hate 05/05/2026

I'm completely appalled by the hateful vandalism of homes and synagogues yesterday. Hate violence is on the rise in our city and reports of antisemitism are all too prevalent. New Yorkers deserve so much better. We deserve safety, dignity, and action. It's not enough to condemn these egregious acts. Our city government must push forward policies that make real change. It's crucial that we fund and implement JFREJ's NYC Against Hate Violence Plan. The NYC Council Progressive Caucus will continue to champion these evidence-based solutions so that no New York can become a safer city for us all.

Read more about the proposal:

NYC Against Hate Over the past decade, the NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force has been the city’s primary tool for fighting identity-based violence. On their watch, hate crimes have only increased. Even as crime in the city has fallen, hate crimes have only increased, up 152% in 2026 compared to the same period in 2025.
