Trick-or-treat today. Protect and serve tomorrow.

With Officers Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde officially welcomed to the department (and gifted a very important new police car) we’ve decided it’s time to launch an aggressive new hiring initiative.

If your child is seen in a police costume this Halloween, congratulations, you’ve already been flagged as a potential recruit!

Tiny superheroes? Future officers. Mini firefighters. Under consideration. Princesses with excellent leadership skills? Command staff material. Anyone wearing a badge and carrying a bucket of candy? HR WOULD LIKE A WORD!

We’re not saying every Halloween costume is a potential recruit… but Judy and Nick are already keeping an eye on the talent pool.

Remembering Detective Sergeant Randy Parker Jr.

Some legacies are measured not in years, but in the lives touched, the lives protected, and the difference made along the way.

Detective Sergeant Randy Parker Jr. dedicated his life to serving Newport Beach, carrying on a family tradition of law enforcement as a third-generation officer. His commitment to this community and the men and women he served alongside left a lasting mark on our Department.

Though Sgt. Parker is no longer with us, his legacy lives on through the people who knew him, the colleagues who stood beside him, and the values he embodied throughout his service.

Forever remembered. Never forgotten.

Organized Retail Theft Investigation Leads to Two Arrests

The Newport Beach Police Department detectives investigating a series of retail thefts identified two suspects connected to multiple incidents across Orange County.

The investigation began after approximately $1,435 in alcohol was stolen from a local business in Newport Beach on September 14. Detectives linked the suspects to a second theft at the same location on September 22 and additional incidents throughout Orange County.

Through coordinated investigative efforts, detectives identified and tracked the suspects. On October 5, two men were arrested in another Orange County city after stealing approximately $894 in merchandise from a local business.

The investigation connected the suspects to six incidents involving thousands of dollars in reported losses, stolen merchandise and recovered property.

This investigation highlights the importance of collaboration between law enforcement agencies and retail partners in identifying repeat offenders and holding those responsible for retail theft accountable.

Over the weekend, flooding impacted Newport Beach’s peninsula, creating challenging conditions for residents and motorists. Sergeant Laverty served as Incident Commander, coordinating our response as officers worked to address the evolving conditions and assist the community.

NBPD officers worked alongside Newport Beach Fire Department personnel, Lifeguards, and City crews as teams across the city responded to the challenging conditions.

Through coordination and collaboration, our personnel worked to address the impacts of the flooding and support the safety of our residents and visitors.

MUFFLER MONDAY: When your car smells like it belongs in the Autopia ride at Disneyland…

Motor Officer Miller made a traffic stop on this modified vehicle which led to a referral to a California State Referee for an inspection to determine whether the exhaust system complies with California emissions and noise requirements.

Be sure to check your exhaust before we do.
