James E. Plew Elementary School Plew empowers students to grow academically, emotionally, and socially to reach their fullest potential. Plew Elementary, located on Pine Avenue in Niceville.

Utilizing technology and innovative teaching practices we promote differentiation, accessibility, and collaboration. In 1968, the Okaloosa County School Board established James E. Immediately, the school began to garner prestigious awards and commendations, and our commitment to excellence has never wavered. From the beginning, our families, faculty, staff, and administration have emphasized student academic achievement as our primary mission. By focusing on the needs of students, we have met and exceeded the rigorous national accrediting standards established by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Plew has been accredited by SACS every year since 1970. Our faculty is highly credentialed and they regularly participate in extensive professional development opportunities that directly benefit our students. Plew has been designated as one of the highest performing elementary schools in Florida. In 1998-1999, Florida Education Commissioner Frank Brogan issued Plew Elementary the Florida School Recognition Award. Only schools with a history of superior student achievement scores on national standardized tests are so honored. In 2003, Plew Elementary was recognized as one of the "Best of the Best" elementary schools in Florida, and we have consistently earned an "A" rating from the Florida Department of Education based on our outstanding scores on the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT). In 2006, our fourth grade students scored the highest in Florida on the writing section of the FCAT. Also in that year, our fifth-grade Academic Team acheved First Place in the state in the Knowledge Master competition.

Dear Second Grade Families,

Since second grade has the last Fun Run session on Friday, there will be no sibling checkouts from the front office after the second-grade Fun Run.

To help ensure a smooth dismissal, we highly encourage siblings to follow their regular, normal transportation plans for the day.

However, if you would like to meet your other child at the Walker Gate instead, please send a written transportation change request to the school! Hand-written notes can be sent to the school with your child either Thursday or Friday, or emailed to [email protected] and [email protected] by Friday at 11am.
*Students without a written transportation change request will follow their regular dismissal plan.

Please be sure to communicate your dismissal plan with your child ahead of time so they know where to go at the end of the day.

Thank you for your understanding and for helping make our Not-So-Spooky Fun Run a fun and smooth day for everyone! 👻🎃
