Mass Audubon Stony Brook The boardwalk leads to a grove of beech trees right in the middle of Kingfisher Pond, where wood ducks, black ducks, and Canada geese can often be seen.

At Stony Brook, an extensive boardwalk system allows you to follow along the edge of Teal Marsh for a great view of turtles, fish, muskrats, and great blue herons. In the summer, keep an eye and ear out for the buzz of activity in the butterfly garden by the nature center.

Who's Living in Your Leaf Pile? 🍁🍂

That pile of fallen leaves might not seem like much to us, but to tiny insects and other creepy-crawlies, it's an important habitat. Come Stony Brook on Saturday, November 7 to dig into the secret world hiding beneath the leaves.

We'll use bug boxes and magnifiers to get a close-up look at the creatures that call leaf piles home, discover who's eating whom in the forest food web, and learn why leaving the leaves can be one of the best things you do for wildlife.

Perfect for curious kids ages 3-6 and their grownups!

We're so glad Marla could spend time with our friends at Sunshine School Milton this month exploring the fascinating world of raptors!

Using hands-on examples, the children learned what makes raptors unique, from powerful talons and hooked beaks to forward-facing eyes that help them spot prey. They compared a raptor foot to that of a perching bird, practiced soaring and hunting like hawks and owls, and looked at photos to decide which birds were raptors and which were not. It was a fun, hands-on way to discover how these amazing birds are adapted to survive in the wild.

We look forward to exploring with you again soon!

🦫This October we're going wild for North American Beavers!

At Stony Brook Wildlife Sanctuary, keep an eye out for signs of beaver activity along the marsh on the Sensory Trail and around the Bristol Pond Loop. Look for gnawed trees and other clues that these busy builders are nearby.

Ready to go wild for beavers? Celebrate these hard-working ecosystem engineers and all the ways they shape wetlands and create habitat for wildlife.

Download Mass Audubon's free Beaver Buddy Guide, check out the new beaver t-shirts, learn fun beaver facts, and share your wild stories for a chance to win a tote bag.
