Our group meeting theme this week was “Alexa, Give Us a Fright!”

During a fun demonstration, Alexa entertained everyone with funny jokes and a spooky Halloween story about a ghost cow! Clients who already have an Echo Dot also shared their experiences and talked about just how helpful and easy to use this technology can be in everyday life.

To wrap up our Halloween celebration, everyone joined in a fun body percussion dance to Michael Jackson’s Thriller!

There were plenty of laughs, a little spookiness, and lots of fun. A great time was had by all!

MCAB clients recently gathered to learn about Dry Eye Disease by watching an educational webinar from the Dry Eye Foundation. The discussion continued as clients shared their personal experiences and talked about the challenges of living with this often misunderstood condition.

Together, they explored how dry eye is an ocular surface disease that can cause significant discomfort and ocular surface pain, impacting everyday life.
At MCAB, we believe that learning from experts and sharing experiences with others helps build understanding, connection, and support.

MCAB is excited to share that we have had the opportunity to consult with DCP Theatre on its upcoming production of Wait Until Dark, opening at the end of October.

Based on the 1967 film starring Audrey Hepburn and Alan Arkin, Wait Until Dark tells the story of a woman who is blind and becomes caught in a dangerous situation.

We are especially grateful to Director Geoff Yorashack for inviting MCAB to be part of this project. MCAB client Denis Murphy had the opportunity to share his experiences and insights about living with vision loss with the cast, helping actor Pockets Seacrist bring greater authenticity to the portrayal of blindness.

We are proud to support DCP Theatre in making theatre more accessible and look forward to seeing our clients, families, friends, and community members at this special performance!

At this month’s group meeting, we were excited to welcome MCAB client Hope, who shared her love of knitting and demonstrated the use of AGIGA EchoVision glasses.

Hope showed everyone different types of knitting needles and a variety of yarn textures, giving participants the opportunity to explore the materials by touch. As a special surprise, everyone even received a beautiful, knitted hat made by Hope!

We also had a great discussion about EchoVision glasses, how they work, and how they compare with Meta glasses. It was a wonderful opportunity to learn about new technology that can support independence while enjoying a fun, hands-on activity.

Thank you, Hope, for sharing your talents, knowledge, and enthusiasm with our group! Everyone had a great time!

15 MCAB clients participated in our “How to Avoid Scams and Fraud” group class! We listened to a Hadley Presents podcast, discussed different types of scams, shared personal experiences, and learned how scammers use fear, pressure, and urgency to get us to act quickly.

Our message was simple: “If you can spot a scam, you can stop a scam!”

We shared tips for identifying and reporting scams, and many clients shared stories of close calls. It was great to hear how many already know to “walk away” from suspicious texts, emails, and phone calls.

MCAB staff will also be helping clients register for the National and Pennsylvania Do Not Call Lists.

A great discussion, lots of shared experiences, and most importantly—more tools to help our clients stay safe!

Recently our clients and staff had the wonderful opportunity to visit Temple University’s campus for a presentation at Tech OWL!

Our fantastic presenters, Jul Ann and Bruce, shared valuable information about Tech OWL’s lending library and gave our clients plenty of ideas to consider when exploring assistive technology. Jul Ann also did a beautiful job explaining the differences between various types of magnification and how they can support independence.

Overall, it was a fantastic experience filled with learning, conversation, and fun. We are so grateful to Tech OWL, Jul Ann, and Bruce for welcoming us and providing this wonderful opportunity for our clients!

Last week, our clients came together for a fun and inspiring group meeting centered around the theme, "When Life Gives You Lemons."

Together, we explored adaptive kitchen tools for measuring and safely cutting, helping participants build confidence and independence in the kitchen. We put those skills to use by making fresh lemonade, then gave our leftover lemon rinds a second life by creating a natural cleaning solution.

Beyond the hands-on activities, we had a meaningful conversation about how life's challenges can often be transformed into opportunities for growth, resilience, and positive solutions.

As always, the room was filled with laughter, encouragement, and the wonderful support our clients so freely share with one another. It was a great reminder that with the right tools, a positive outlook, and a caring community, we can all make something good out of life's lemons.

We had a rockin' good time at this week's group meeting as we celebrated International Rock Day!

We kicked off the afternoon by recognizing the anniversary of the iconic Live Aid Concert and reminiscing about the rock and roll bands that first inspired us. It was a wonderful trip down memory lane, filled with music, memories, and plenty of smiles.

We also reflected on the "rocks" in our own lives—the family members, friends, and loved ones who are always there to support us and who we can count on through life's challenges.

The fun continued with hands-on activities as participants painted rocks, created their own rock pets, and even cracked open geodes to discover the beautiful crystals hidden inside.

It was a day filled with creativity, conversation, laughter, and meaningful connections. Thank you to everyone who joined us and made it such a memorable afternoon!
