Members of the NFD traveled to Priestly Elementary for the annual fire prevention day. Kids learned the importance of staying low in a smoke filled room, operating a fire extinguisher, looked at many different fire trucks and their functions.

The Northumberland Fire Department recently received a $1000 grant from Pennsylvania Skill Charitable Giving to purchase a second set of Milwaukee M18 REDLITHIUM batteries for the Super Vac portable ventilation fans. These high volume fans are used to clear smoke and provide fresh air at emergency scenes. The new batteries provide extended run time before connecting to generator or shore power is required. Thank you Pennsylvania Skill Charitable Giving!

Borough and township units were dispatched this morning at 05:25 to the area of 503 front street for a reported MVA involving a tractor trailer and multiple cars. Borough chiefs arrived on scene and found that a tractor trailer struck 2 power poles and multiple parked cars. Unit quickly secured the scene and assisted tow crew with clean up. Roadway was shut down for a extended time. Units were on scene for roughly 3 hrs.

This evening members took to the streets and cleared snow from around fire hydrants in the borough. We would like to give a big shout out to the residents who cleared 90% of the hydrants in the borough. From the Northumberland Fire Department we greatly thank you!!!
