A Patchogue-Medford Alum from the Class of 2015, Eileen Acker Rignola, ran the New York City Marathon for Team Answer The Call! She ran her first formal race in November 2024 and hasn’t stopped since. In under two years, Eileen has run a half-marathon and two full marathons, most recently in May 2026.

The NYC Marathon has always inspired Eileen, but she never imagined herself running it. The opportunity presented itself through a post on Answer the Call’s page looking for potential runners, which Eileen’s mother shared with her. Her family has deep ties to law enforcement, including her father, a retired officer with the NYPD and Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department.

Congratulations Eileen on this tremendous achievement of running the NYC Marathon! Once a Raider Always a Raider!

Patchogue-Medford School District was honored to welcome back Arnie Neufeld to the High School, where he spoke about his experiences surviving the holocaust to our 10th grade students.

Neufeld represents the Holocaust Memorial Tolerance Center of Nassau County, and has given our students real-world insight to what they have learned in their history classes. During his presentation, he also makes sure to press the issue of anger management to students, teaching them to harbor resentment in order to live long and prosperous lives.

We thank Mr. Neufeld for sharing his story with us and inspiring many of our Pat-Med students.

Mrs. Townsend’s 3–5 ACES class at River Elementary enjoyed going trick-or-treating throughout the school using their AAC devices! The students had the opportunity to use their devices to say “Trick or Treat,” while our wonderful staff members joined in the fun by handing out treats.

It was a wonderful way to celebrate Halloween while encouraging communication, independence, and inclusion. Every voice deserves to be heard!

Our two Ex-Officio Student Board Members, IvyLake Goldberg and Ervin Rodriguez, represented Patchogue-Medford at the Eastern Suffolk BOCES Student Ex-Officio Ignite Leadership Conference last week.

Throughout the day, students participated in engaging leadership development activities centered on The Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership. The conference also featured small-group breakout sessions covering a variety of important topics, including the specifics of the board room, effective engagement with school leaders, and strategies for representing the perspectives of all students.

IvyLake and Ervin thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to learn, participate, and collaborate with fellow student board members from across Eastern Suffolk County. Their commitment to student voice and leadership continues to make a positive impact on our school community, and we are proud of the dedication they bring to their roles as student representatives.

Eagle Elementary has concluded its spirit day election. The fifth grade classes each chose a spirit day, before student representatives pleaded their case on why their theme should be chosen to other grades during lunch.

On Monday, Kindergarten through fourth grade casted their ballots on what spirit day they wanted to celebrate. Fifth graders counted up the votes and Pajama Day was announced as the winner!

Pajama Day will be celebrated sometime soon, with this initiative being an interactive way for our students to learn about elections, and see how their vote can make an impact!
