3rd alarm transmitted in the 2400 block of McClellan Avenue, Cooper River Plaza Apartments East for a fire on the fifth floor of a 14 story Class 1 multiple dwelling. First alarm companies encountered a self venting fire condition and a civilian female who was trapped in the apartment and jumped from the fifth floor fire apartment. Extra alarm companies were special called for fire extension, searches and evacuations of multiple floors. Forty residents of the fifth floor have been displaced and are being assisted by the American Red Cross. The injured civilian resident was transported by PFD BLS to an area emergency department for treatment. The fire is under investigation by the Pennsauken and Camden County Fire Marshal.

Hats off to our partners from the Pennsauken Police Department who were first to arrive and stood side by side with our members assisting in completing evacuations.

Appreciation to the leadership of Evesham Fire-Rescue for the invitation of PFD staff officers to attend the 6 day, 48 hour National Fire Academy's Command and Control of Fire Department Operations at Target Hazards course, along with officers from nine South Jersey fire departments.

Even more fortunate is to have the legendary Philadelphia Fire Department Deputy Chief Bill Shouldis as one of the program Instructors.

A solemn day for the Pennsauken Fire Department as we learn of another passing of a Camden County fire photography icon, John Axford. As he did in so many other departments, John was a fixture in the PFD and a true documentarian of the work of Firemen. Thank you for your friendship and fraternity Chief, May God Bless you. Our thoughts are with John’s family and friends.

Rest in Peace John Axford. A well known Fire Photographer around the Delaware Valley. Even was an Official Photographer for Camden County as well a Retired Voorhees Police Officer & Assistant Chief for Haddonfield Fire Company. He will be Missed. Our Condolences to his Family & Friends.
