Exciting news to share. Over the summer, we purchased a new fire truck - a Kenworth T-370 Tanker that holds 3000 gallons of water. This one single truck holds nearly as much water as units 12, 14, and 16 combined, which will be very helpful when responding to fires in rural areas of the county with no hydrants.

The new truck’s number is 11, officially replacing the old pumper 11 that was in service from 1986-2019. It should serve us well for the next 30 years.

PVFD held our annual fire prevention at Creed Collins elementary school today. Three members met at the station this morning and took units 12 and 15 to the school. We happily supplied plastic fire helmets, coloring books, and new smoke detectors for the students while explaining what the different equipment does and teaching fire safety.

We hope all of them had a blast seeing the trucks and remember what to do in case of an emergency.

Units 10, 13, 15, and around ten firemen responded to several flooding & roadway obstruction/trees down calls this evening in the wake of this afternoon’s storm. Most of the calls occurred in the Mountain area on Rt. 74 North.

We’re saddened to announce the passing of longtime PVFD Ladies’ Auxiliary member Betty Horner. Betty was a member of our fire department family for nearly 70 years, beginning when her husband Larry Horner Sr joined the department in 1958.

She faithfully served in the Ladies Auxiliary for over 65 years. Many of those years were spent with her daughter Sondra and daughter in law Cheryl being members of the Auxiliary as well. Please keep her son, firefighter Larry Horner Jr, and the rest of their family in your prayers in the coming days.

Her funeral service will be Tuesday at 2pm at McCullough Funeral Home in Pennsboro.
