Friends, our Mayor's Motorcade is coming up on Saturday, November 28 at 3 PM, and we'd love your help spreading a little Christmas cheer to our neighbors at Lillian Carter Nursing Home and Sumter Retirement.
If you'd like to donate, the residents have asked for: body wash, shampoo and conditioner, rags, towels, socks, brushes, and snacks.
You can drop off items at City Hall or with any of our downtown merchants — you'll see flyers in their windows downtown with the list.
We'll deliver everything with the motorcade as we visit both homes that afternoon, finishing up before the Christmas Parade at 6 PM. Thank you, Plains, for taking care of our own.

Save the date, Plains! 🎄
Christmas in Plains is Saturday, Nov 28, downtown — and it's shaping up to be a full evening.
The Mayor's Motorcade rolls at 3 PM, visiting our friends at Lillian Carter Nursing Home and Sumter Retirement, then the Christmas Parade steps off downtown at 6 PM, with the SAM Shortline train in town for the lighting ceremony and Santa onboard. Streets downtown close 5–10 PM.

What a turnout for Trunk-or-Treat on Main Street Saturday night. Thank you to the Friends of Jimmy Carter for putting it on, to our sponsors, and to everyone who decorated a trunk, brought the kids, and came out to enjoy a safe, fun evening with your neighbors.
This town shows up for each other, and it showed Saturday night. Thank you all for making it such a great night in downtown Plains!

Come join us on Main Street tonight from 5 to 8 for Trunk-or-Treat! Bring the kids, wear your costumes, and enjoy a safe, fun evening with your neighbors. Main Street will be closed for the event, so come on down and celebrate with us.

Good news, Plains — our Hometown Heroes banners will start going up next week, just in time for Veterans Day. These banners honor the men and women from our community who served our country, and we're proud to see them lining our streets again.
If you'd like to purchase a banner to honor a hero in your family, stop by City Hall and we'll get you taken care of.
Thank you to all who served, and to everyone who helps us honor them.

Friends, a quick reminder: early voting in Sumter County ends this Friday, October 30. If you haven't voted yet, there's still time before Friday — or make your plan for Election Day, Tuesday, November 3, when polls are open 7 AM to 7 PM. Every vote matters, and I appreciate everyone who takes the time to be heard.

This year, we’re collecting donations for the Lillian Carter and the Retirement Center! 🎁 Help us spread a little extra holiday cheer by donating items from the list below.

📍 Donation boxes will be located at local merchants and City Hall.
🗓️ All donations are due by Thursday, November 26, 2026.
🚗 The Mayor’s Motorcade is on Saturday, November 28, at 3:00 PM, starting at Lillian Carter!

🎃 Halloween Safety in Plains 🎃

With Halloween night coming up, let's keep our kids safe and have a great time downtown:

• Instead of going door to door, come join us for Trunk-or-Treat downtown, Saturday, October 31, from 5 to 8 PM!
• Trick-or-treat with a grown-up, and stick together in groups
• Wear something bright or reflective so drivers can see you, and carry a flashlight
• Main Street will be closed for Trunk-or-Treat, so drivers — please use alternate routes and watch for little ones crossing nearby
• Have a grown-up check treats before eating

Let's look out for each other and make it a safe, fun night in Plains. See y'all downtown!
