🐝🌸☀️ Did you know that the way light reflects off a flower can help a bee find its next meal? BRS fourth graders do!

As part of a recent science lesson on light and reflection, students explored how sunlight reflects off flowers and travels to a bee's eyes, where its brain processes what it sees and recognizes a potential source of nectar.

Students put their learning into action by creating scientific models, complete with illustrations, arrows and written explanations showing how the sun, flower, bee's eyes and brain work together. Their impressive work is now featured in Science/STEAM teacher Lauren Michetti's classroom as part of her "Science Stars" showcase! ⭐

Now in her first full year teaching BRS's youngest "STEAMERS" in grades 1 and 2 and budding scientists in grades 3 and 4, she is bringing science to life through engaging, hands-on experiences that encourage students to ask questions, make connections and discover the science behind everyday experiences.

From investigating how bees find flowers to exploring how our brains make sense of the world around us, BRS students are learning to see the world through the eyes of a scientist! 🔬💚

🎃👻 Creativity Was on Full Display Across Pleasantville Schools This Halloween!

From clever costumes to some truly hilarious transformations, students and staff went all out for Halloween! Cows, cats, bees, penguins...but not a Panther in sight! 🐄🐈🐝🐧

🍬 At Bedford Road School, the annual Halloween parade was a spook-tacular sight, with students showing off their costumes to the delight of parents and families.

🕸️ At Pleasantville Middle School, students brought their Halloween A-game for a costume contest, showing off plenty of imagination and a little spooky flair!

🎭 At Pleasantville High School, seniors kept up the tradition of being the only students to dress up. And teachers and staff across the District got in on the fun, too, proving that you're never too old for a little Halloween mischief!

No bones about it, Pleasantville knows how to celebrate! Wishing everyone a fun and safe Halloween. 💀🎃

🎃🍂 A Picture-Perfect Day for a Parade! 🍁👻

Pleasantville was looking fa-boo-lous yesterday as a HUGE crowd turned out for our beloved Ragamuffin Parade! From precious princesses to spooky Scream characters and everything in between, Bedford Road was filled with Halloween spirit. And the families who got into the fun with coordinated costumes? Simply spook-tacular!

🥁 Led by the Pleasantville Middle School Band, the lively procession made its way down Bedford Road to Memorial Plaza, where bounce houses and games added to the festive atmosphere as families gathered to extend the festivities.

But the real magic wasn't in the costumes. It was in seeing so many neighbors, friends and families come together to celebrate a tradition that makes our village so special. Now that's Pleasantville perfection! 💚🧡

Huge thanks to all of the people from the Village and school district who made the day as *sweet* as possible. 🍭

Every student deserves to feel safe, respected and included at school. At Pleasantville Middle School, students are helping make that a reality!

In recognition of Unity Day, eighth-grade Student Council members visited sixth-grade classrooms to lead conversations about kindness, acceptance, inclusion and bullying prevention. 🧡

Wearing orange bandanas to symbolize unity, the student leaders used realistic scenarios to help their younger peers distinguish bullying from conflict, explore what it means to be an upstander and discuss how to respond when someone is being mistreated or excluded.

🙋 The eighth graders worked to create a comfortable environment for open discussion, and the sixth graders responded by sharing ideas, considering different perspectives and, in some cases, drawing on personal experiences.

The experience gave eighth graders an opportunity to practice leadership while helping younger students build the confidence to navigate challenging situations, seek support and stand up for themselves and others.

💚🐾 Beyond Agreeing to Disagree: Learning to Debate with Respect

Does suffering build character? It's a complicated question, and one that PHS 10th-grade English students explored through a lively classroom debate inspired by Maya Angelou's memoir, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings.

In Gianmarco Martignetti and Kaitlyn Zapletal's class, students took opposing positions, using evidence from the text to build their arguments, challenge assumptions and consider different perspectives. But the lesson went well beyond literature. Students practiced listening carefully, asking thoughtful questions and disagreeing respectfully, even when discussing difficult and sensitive topics.

💬 "I like learning this way because you have to listen to the other side and really think about what they're saying," said student Julianna Zaino.

The takeaway? Being a strong thinker isn't just about making your own argument. It's also about being willing to listen, reconsider and learn from others.

💚🐾 Celebrating Our Principals During National Principals Month

They are leaders, educators, colleagues, parents, friends and trusted partners. They are the familiar faces greeting students in the morning, the steady voices guiding staff through challenges, and the enthusiastic supporters celebrating accomplishments both big and small.

Our Pleasantville principals are so much more than school administrators. They are the heart of their school communities. They know our students, they know our staff, and they understand that the relationships they build every day are fundamental to creating schools where everyone feels valued, supported and inspired.

They lead with compassion and conviction, balancing countless responsibilities while never losing sight of what matters most: our children.

Our District's mission calls on us to empower students to thrive as lifelong learners, dynamic thinkers and compassionate, contributing citizens. Our principals bring that mission to life every day, creating the culture in which those aspirations become reality.

During , we celebrate these exceptional leaders not only for what they do, but for who they are.

Joe, Adam and Rachel, thank you for leading with your hearts, showing up for our students and staff, and making Pleasantville's schools such extraordinary places to learn and grow. 💚🤍🐾

💚🖤🤍 100 GOALS EACH! TWO PANTHERS MAKE HISTORY! ⚽

Congratulations to PHS senior Faith Brown and sophomore Samantha Schultz, who each scored an incredible 100 goals this season! No player in PHS soccer history had ever reached this milestone before, and now two Panthers have done it.

Their remarkable achievements reflect not only their individual talent and dedication, but also the strength and teamwork of the entire Panthers squad!

Faith, who will be playing lacrosse at the University of Pennsylvania next fall, and Samantha were recognized by the Board of Education at its October 20 meeting.

Congratulations to Faith and Samantha on making history - and to the entire team - as they head into sectionals as the No. 1 seed in Section 1, Class B! 💚🖤🤍🐾

💚 More Than Awareness: White Cane Day at PHS!

"I just love these kids!"

That was a sentiment PHS junior Morgan Adriazola repeated as she enthusiastically connected with classmates during the school's White Cane Day celebration.

Morgan, who is blind, inspired PHS to embrace this international observance and make it something uniquely Pleasantville. Now in its second year, the celebration brought students together during lunch periods for hands-on experiences designed to build awareness, empathy and understanding.

🦯 Students tried navigating with white canes while wearing vision-blocking masks, discovering just how much skill and practice it takes. They also had opportunities to connect with representatives from the NYS Commission for the Blind and a visually impaired athlete who shared his experiences.

For Morgan, the impact extends beyond the celebration. She says students are increasingly aware of her presence in the hallways and better understand how to make space for her to navigate.

And she's already thinking about the future. Although she has another year at PHS, Morgan hopes White Cane Day will continue long after she graduates.

"I want this to still be happening 62 years from now," she said.
