YWCA of Greater Portland The YWCA is on a mission to eliminate racism and empower women!

The YWCA of Greater Portland is the local affiliate of one of the oldest and largest women’s organizations in the nation. We have been an active part of the Portland community for the past 110 years, providing services to women, children, and families, from all walks of life—regardless of their age, race, or income level. The YWCA of Greater Portland’s services extend from Multnomah County to clients from all over Oregon. Our programs span four key areas: youth services, domestic violence services, senior services, and social justice. The YWCA is a highly collaborative organization with an established history of partnering with local organizations and groups. As a non-profit organization, we believe that partnerships are the cornerstone of providing high quality, fiscally responsible, sustainable services to our clients.

Safe, secure housing is a human right and the basic foundation for living, healing, and thriving. Our InReach advocates, in partnership with JOIN: connecting the street to a home, work with local unhoused survivors to provide housing placement support along with follow-up resource connection, financial support, advocacy, and retention services.

YWCAPDX’s InReach team is here to get unhoused survivors the resources they need to heal. 💜

Do you know what YWCA stands for? In 2015 our national movement retired the “Young Women’s Christian Association” and became YWCA. While the “C” no longer stands for Christian - we stand up for our shared values: Community, Compassion, Courage and Commitment to social justice.

Why the name change? To affirm our dedication to making space for ALL women regardless of race, gender identity, sexuality, nationality, or faith. On our mission to eliminate racism, empower women, and promote peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all, YWCAPDX is committed to inclusion and empowerment of the diverse communities we serve.

Partners like these really made our 125th a night to remember! 🌟 THANK YOU to Uplifted Coffee and RPN Strategies, solidarity sponsors for our 125th Birthday Bash (the patriarchy). Their dedication went above and beyond the evening of celebration itself, and was truly critical to what made this milestone special.

YWCA of Greater Portland is led BY survivors FOR survivors. 💜🤝🧡 Using trauma-informed and housing-first care models, we work to increase Survivors’ safety, economic security, and housing stability during and immediately following emergency crisis situations.

We take a holistic approach, supporting survivors’ mental health, housing stability, and economic security while simultaneously ensuring their most basic needs are met during moments of crisis. Our programs support healing, long-term safety, and stability, while helping families break intergenerational cycles of violence.

We pride ourselves on our team of passionate, diverse, and skilled advocates, ensuring every survivor can get support that helps them feel seen, safe, and empowered. 100% of our domestic violence advocates are Survivors themselves, 46% identify as 2SLGBTQIA+, 47% are BIPOC, 27% have a disability, 40% are multilingual, and 11% are immigrants. When participants can connect with advocates who look like them, have shared life experiences, and speak their language, their healing journey is shaped for the better.

In response to recent national conversations about sexual violence, YWCA USA stands with survivors and calls on policymakers, institutions, and communities to strengthen accountability, prevent violence, and ensure survivor-centered responses.

Too many survivors continue to face barriers to support, accountability, and justice. Every person deserves safety, dignity, and the freedom to live free from sexual and interpersonal violence.

YWCA USA supports efforts to strengthen survivor protections and campus sexual-violence accountability, including through the Title IX Take Responsibility Act. Strengthening Title IX protections is critical to ensuring survivors can access fair processes, support, and accountability when sexual violence occurs.

Earlier this month, several members of our Survivor Services team joined community members across Multnomah County for the formal proclamation of October 2026 as Domestic Violence Awareness Month 💜 Thank you to Shawnta, Angel, Elida, and Kayla for representing YWCAPDX!

DVAM is about more than awareness - It’s a call to action. By educating ourselves about domestic violence and amplifying survivor voices, our community can push back against the cycle of violence.

At YWCAPDX, we're committed to eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all. This Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we continue that work by advocating for survivors, raising awareness, and helping create communities free from violence.
