Oversize Load Tentatively Scheduled to Travel Through Scioto County and Portsmouth Next Week.
An oversize load permit application has been submitted for a large electrical transformer tentatively scheduled to travel through Scioto County and Portsmouth next week. The super load will not be moving on Tuesday, election day, as previously reported by some media outlets, according to the Ohio Department of Transportation’s (ODOT) Special Hauling and Oversize Permit Division in Columbus.
The load will originate at the Adams Ohio River Transit Access Site (AORTA) near Manchester and follow the same route used by the previous super loads through Scioto County.
Although large, the transformer is considerably smaller than the super loads that previously traveled through the area. The load measures approximately 18 feet 6 inches tall and 12 feet 10 inches wide.
The transformer’s movement is expected to cause minimal traffic of traffic disruption through the City of Portsmouth; however, motorists traveling along the planned route should anticipate temporary delays, allow extra travel time, and exercise caution around the oversize vehicle.
The move remains tentative pending the permit process. The schedule and travel times may change.
