Warren County Department of Workforce Development staff were among the dozen local employers and organizations that were part of Friday's WSWHE BOCES Manufacturing and STEAM Day at SUNY Adirondack!

High school students from around the region attended the event to learn more about the career options available locally in manufacturing and science/technology/engineering related industries. In addition to attending the event, the students toured local STEAM employers such as Global Foundries and Fort Miller Group.

The Workforce Development team had some career-related games, information about career services and more. Thank you to our friends at BOCES for putting this event together!

Head's up that today is another day with elevated fire danger because of dry conditions and persistent winds ...

ELEVATED RISK OF FIRE SPREAD TODAY (FRIDAY)
October 30
11 AM – 6 PM

The National Weather Service in Albany is advising of an elevated risk of fire spread Today (Friday, October 30th) as dry vegetation, gusty winds, and low humidity create conditions where fires could spread rapidly.

Northwest winds are expected to gust between 25 and 35 mph, with relative humidity dropping to 35–45% in lower elevations and 40–50% in higher elevations. The greatest concern will be from late morning through mid-afternoon, when winds are expected to be strongest and humidity levels lowest.

A few simple precautions can make a difference:

🔥 Avoid outdoor burning, especially during windy conditions.

🔥 Be mindful when using machinery or equipment that could produce sparks.

🔥 Properly extinguish ci******es and never discard them on the ground.

🔥 Use caution with matches, campfires, and other potential ignition sources.

While these conditions may not seem unusual for a fall day, dry leaves and other vegetation can ignite easily, and gusty winds can cause a small fire to spread quickly.

Please use extra caution throughout the day.

Be Ready. Be Prepared. Be Safe.

Elevated wildfire risk in our region because of dry conditions and winds into this evening ...

Just an FYI to be aware and cautious about fire ignition sources on Friday. With the passage of a cold front overnight the relative humidity will drop on Friday and the wind will gust at times from 25-35 mph. That along with all the dry leaves on the very dry ground will lead to an elevated risk for fire spread, should a fire ignite.
