Today at the Association of Programs for Rural Independent Living Conference in Niagara Falls, SAIL President and CEO Tyler Whitney and Director of External Affairs Cam Cardinale hosted a session focused on the power of rural collaboration.

It was a fantastic opportunity to connect with people from across the country who are doing meaningful work in the independent living movement and building stronger, more inclusive communities.

We’re always fired up to be part of this work and to keep pushing forward!

Have you gotten help from Healthy Alliance or one of our partners that has changed your life?

Many of the services offered through Healthy Alliance and our partner network are made possible through New York's Medicaid Waiver Program. The State has seen the impact this work can have and wants to see this work continue for another five years. That's why we need your help! Public comment period is open, which means the federal government wants to hear directly from the people and communities this program has helped. By sharing your experience, you can help decision-makers understand the impact these services have on people's lives and why they're so essential!

Our team has been out in the community and across the country, connecting with fellow professionals, sharing ideas, and bringing new knowledge back to the work we do every day!

Recent opportunities have included:

Camp Finance, hosted by the New York Council of Nonprofits, Inc. (NYCON), bringing nonprofit finance and development professionals together to share ideas and strengthen the organizations that serve our communities.

North Country Leadership Summit, hosted by the Adirondack Health Institute, connecting leaders across health and human services to explore challenges, opportunities, and ways to better support our communities.

Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) Health Care Navigator Conference in Denver, focused on strengthening our work to connect veterans with the health care and support services they need to thrive.

📸 Met with Southern Adirondack Independent Living (SAIL) at my Schenectady district office to discuss their funding needs and support for services that help people with disabilities live more independently.

SAIL helps people access benefits, borrow assistive equipment, and find the support they need to stay in their homes or return to the community from a nursing facility.

As Chair of the Assembly Committee on People with Disabilities, I’m focused on making sure people have meaningful choices about where and how they live—and access to the services that make those choices possible.

Thank you to the SAIL team for sharing your needs and working to build more accessible, inclusive communities!
