Their creativity, fun-loving personalities, and genuine care for our students are just a few of the things that make Brassfield so special. They really brought the books to life at today’s Book Character Parade! We couldn’t ask for a better crew of characters!

A little treat for our amazing Brassfield staff! 🐻❤️

Last week, our PTA Hospitality Team rolled through with a snack and beverage cart to show our staff some love!

We also added some fun with a raffle featuring a Sassool Cafe | Mediterranean Restaurant gift card for a family meal, a Two Roosters Ice Cream , happy + hale smoothie cards, and other treats! Staff could earn extra entries by following the PTA on social media and joining the PTA.

A special thank you to Brassfield PTA sponsor Eleanor James for donating a beautiful tote and blanket for our raffle! We’re so grateful for their generosity and support of our school community!

And a big thank you to our Hospitality Team for making it all happen! 💛

J/K! We’re ALL holding it down in the PTA! 🐻💙💛

Corporate baddies, healthcare professionals, attorneys, professors, business owners, landscapers, stay-at-home parents, and everything in between!

Our PTA is made up of parents and caregivers with different backgrounds, schedules, talents, and experiences. And there’s room for everyone!

We know not everyone can attend meetings or volunteer during the school day. That’s why we have opportunities to help remotely, in the evenings, and on weekends. And sometimes, getting involved simply means staying informed, sharing ideas, or reaching out!

📅 Our next PTA board meeting is Tuesday, October 27 at 9:30 AM in the Media Center. You can also join remotely! Find the Google Meet link in our Google Calendar.

Join us in person, listen when you can, send us an email, check out our volunteer page in the LinkTree, or we’ll catch you next time!

However you show up, you’re part of our Brassfield community.

Brassfield families showed up and made their voices heard at Tuesday evening’s WCPSS Board of Education meeting. 🐻

Ten speakers shared a range of perspectives on the proposed cell tower, touching on cellular service inside the school, RF exposure and safety research, proximity to the track, property values, and opportunities to negotiate stronger lease terms that better benefit Brassfield.

After hearing from the community and discussing the proposal, the Board voted 7–1 to table the vote on the lease agreement. The Board Chair indicated that the proposal will return to the Facilities and Operations Committee for further discussion.

So, what does this mean for Brassfield? For now, we don’t have an answer. The proposal remains under consideration.

We know this is an important conversation for many in our school community, and we appreciate everyone who has taken the time to learn more and share their perspective.

Families can watch Tuesday’s meeting on the WCPSS YouTube channel to hear the public comments and Board discussion firsthand.

If you’d like to share your thoughts, we encourage you to reach out to WCPSS Board members directly.
You can also connect with our PTA Advocacy Committee, which helps bring family voices into conversations that impact Brassfield students and families.

💙💛 Proposed Cell Tower at Brassfield Elementary | What Families Should Know

An important decision affecting our school community is coming before the WCPSS Board of Education on October 20.

The Board is scheduled to vote on an agreement with APC-EDGE, a telecommunications infrastructure partnership, that could allow a wireless telecommunications tower to be built on Brassfield’s campus.

A few key details:

• Location: Near the track, approximately 400 feet from the school building and 300 feet from the playground and basketball courts.

• Height: Originally proposed at 195 feet, with plans to reduce it to 185 feet.

• Lease: An initial 10 years, with possible renewals totaling 25 years.

• Purpose: APC reports that Verizon identified a wireless coverage gap in the area.

• Revenue: Starting at $30,000 annually, paid to WCPSS.

• Safety: RF compliance reviews required before activation and when equipment or carriers change.

The PTA’s Role

Our Brassfield PTA Advocacy Committee has been attending meetings, gathering information, and asking questions to help families better understand the proposal.

The Brassfield PTA has not taken a position for or against the proposed tower. Our goal is to provide factual information, share resources, and ensure families know how to make their voices heard, regardless of their perspective.

A more detailed overview will be shared through TalkingPoints on the morning of October 20, ahead of the Board’s vote.

A little behind-the-scenes creativity with Mrs. Chern! 🎨💙

Our Brassy Bears have been putting their own colorful spin on their Brassfield T-shirts! Mrs. Chern has been guiding students through tie-dye projects, using different techniques and colors to create some fun, one-of-a-kind designs.

These PTA-designed T-shirts made their debut at our Glow Run and are now getting a colorful makeover before heading out on field trips throughout the year!

We love seeing our students get creative and make these shirts their own! 🐻🎨
