Starting Tuesday, May 26th, 2026, FR 164 will be closed during the week to traffic to install culverts.

The closure of FR 164 will be from County Road GG to Stockfarm Campground. Stockfarm Campground will remain open and accessible from the East.

FR 164 will be open to through traffic on weekends unless otherwise given notice.

Due to bridge replacement over McCarthy Creek, Ashland County Highway GG between Mellen and Clam Lake is scheduled to be closed beginning Tuesday, May 26, 2026 until completion on or about July 31, 2026.

This bridge is located in the Town of Marengo between Conley Road/FR 184 and Namakagon Road/FR 196.

Detour route is State Highway 13/77.

📌Riley Unit 6 (758 acres) located between Riley Lake Road (FR 137) and Hemlock Road (FR 505) south of Highway 70 and east of Fifield in Price County.

Forest visitors can expect to see smoke and fire management personnel in the area throughout the day. Watch for warning signs along roads and when driving, slow down and turn on your headlights if you encounter smoke on the road.

Our Park Falls Office parking lot is getting new pavement! Starting May 26, the Park Falls Office will be closed to the public while our parking lot is repaved. To keep everyone safe, please do not drive into the parking lot during this time.

Neighboring offices that can provide passes, permits, and other services include the Medford Office, David R. Obey Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center in Ashland, and the Rhinelander Office. 📌Dusty Trails 2 (64 acres) located on the southeast boundary of the Lakewood-Laona Ranger District near the intersection of Old 64 Road (FR 2307) and Trin Pine Road (FR 2107) in Oconto County.

📌Sleeping Bear 2 (11 acres) is located on the southeast boundary of the Lakewood-Laona Ranger District near the intersection of Old 64 Road (FR 2307) and Airport Road (FR 2309) in Oconto County.

West Zone - Great Divide Ranger District

📌Butternut Opening (15 acres) located off of Forest Road 169 which is to the north of Bear Lake Road (FR 163) and east of County Highway GG in Ashland County.

What in the world is wood preservation?
