🎡🎈 Step Right Up for Fun at Friends Place! 🎠🐴
What a fun-filled Fair Day at Friends Place! Our members enjoyed midway games, a sweet cakewalk, a special visit from an adorable miniature horse, and lots of laughter with Bender the Clown, who delighted everyone with his amazing balloon creations! 🤡🎈🎂
The day was filled with smiles, laughter, and wonderful memories!
❤️ At Friends Place, you're never too old to enjoy a little fairground magic!

For the son or daughter who lives four states away. ✈️

You get the phone call summary, not the experience. You are trying to help make a decision about a place you have never been to, on behalf of a parent you can’t check on.

Call us anyway. Ask us everything you would ask if you were standing in the lobby. We will tell you what we can offer, what we can’t, and whether we think your loved one would actually enjoy it.

Being far away does not mean being left out of this.

One conversation is manageable. Four versions of it, from four people who each phrased it their own way, is much harder on the person receiving them.

If there are siblings involved, agree on the language before anyone brings it up. What you are all going to call it. What the first ask is. Who is making it. If you spend a week describing a group that meets during the day and your brother calls it "that facility" on speakerphone, that work is undone in four seconds.

And if the family is not on the same page yet, sort that out on the phone, without your loved one in the room. Families who arrive with one voice get further than families who negotiate in front of the person they are talking about.

We are always glad to meet people and organizations who want to spend time with our members. 👀

Sometimes that is one person with a guitar and a free Thursday. Sometimes it is a school, a church group, a scout troop, a book club, a garden club, or a company looking for somewhere meaningful to send a volunteer team.

Live music, dancing, therapy dogs, arts and crafts, and intergenerational programs are already part of our week. If you can add to any of those, or bring something we have not thought of, we want to talk.

💜 TOMORROW, WE WALK FOR A WORLD WITHOUT ALZHEIMER’S! 💜

Friends Place Adult Day Services is excited to participate in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s tomorrow at Riders Field in Frisco! 💜

We’re walking in honor of those living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, in memory of those we’ve lost, and in support of the families and caregivers who face this journey every day.

At Friends Place, we see firsthand how Alzheimer’s affects not just individuals, but entire families. Every step we take brings us closer to greater awareness, more support, and a future without this disease.

Barbara’s husband was with us for about a year and a half. She wrote:

"The staff was wonderful and supportive and offered groups to help us understand what our loved ones were experiencing and ways to help them through each step and to help us learn to cope with continuing changes! They were my angels."

Understanding what is happening, and having somewhere to bring your own questions is part of it too. 🤍
