Last week, our Carquinez Middle School 8th Graders began their participation in a groundbreaking program designed by the Torlakson Whole Child Institute to introduce young students to pathways into Union Building Trades such as the Boilermakers (Commercial Welding) trade. They were provided a charter bus and welcomed to a brand new state-of-the-art training center in Benicia, run by the Boilermakers Local #549. They were greeted with Donuts and Juice from local elected officials, and learned from Union Apprenticeship program leaders and rank-and-file workers about the history of the trade, the living legacy of organized labor, and the realities of working in the Boilermaker trade. Students were able to learn important terms and concepts and get their hands dirty trying two different forms of welding - and were provided a tangible experience that can help them weigh their career options in a much more informed way. The vision of the program is for these John Swett Unified students to continue receiving support from the Torlakson Institute throughout their educational journey to HS graduation, and to offer guidance to help realize whatever college or career goals they might develop. This was another way that we are attempting to help bridge the gap between valuable community resources and our students' learning experiences.

Big thank you to the HRC Rotary Club, Phillips 66, and all of our partners who helped make this program launch a huge success!

🦅✨ RHE EAGLES SHOW THEIR SCHOOL SPIRIT! ✨🏈

Over 70 Rodeo Hills Elementary students participated in this year’s Homecoming festivities at John Swett High School!

For the past couple of weeks, our little Eagles worked hard learning cheers and preparing a special halftime performance for the big game. Their enthusiasm, dedication, and incredible school spirit impressed the crowd and made the night extra special! 📣

It was so much fun watching our Eagles cheer on the John Swett High School Warriors football team, represent their school with pride, and make memories that will last a lifetime! We are so proud of these amazing students and can’t wait to see what next year’s Homecoming brings!
