🚨🚑🚒🚓 Happy National First Responders Day! 🚓🚒🚑🚨

Today, October 28th, we proudly recognize and honor the brave men and women who answer the call when others need them most.

To our EMS professionals, firefighters, law enforcement officers, 911 dispatchers, rescue squad members, search and rescue teams, and ALL first responders — today is YOUR day! ❤️

Whether you’re responding to a medical emergency, fighting a fire, protecting our communities, answering a desperate call for help, or working behind the scenes to coordinate lifesaving resources, your dedication does not go unnoticed.

First responders come from different agencies, wear different uniforms, and serve in different roles, but we all share one common mission: to protect lives, serve our communities, and be there when seconds matter.

The long shifts, missed holidays, sleepless nights, difficult calls, and sacrifices made by you and your families are a true testament to your commitment to serving others.

💙❤️💛 From all of us at Hawkins County EMS, THANK YOU to every first responder who puts service above self. We are honored to work alongside so many dedicated professionals throughout Hawkins County and beyond.

Different uniforms. Different roles. One mission. One family. 🇺🇸

Stay safe, watch out for one another, and never forget the difference you make every single day!

🚑🔬 Inspiring the Next Generation of First Responders! 🔬🚑

Hawkins County EMS was excited to participate in the Oak Ridge National Laboratory Rolling Science Fair / Career Fair at Phipps Bend!

Our crew had the opportunity to showcase some of the equipment and lifesaving skills used in emergency medical services while sharing what it takes to pursue a career in EMS. 🚑❤️

Events like these are a great way to introduce students to the exciting world of emergency medicine and hopefully inspire some future EMTs and paramedics!

A big thank you to Oak Ridge National Laboratory and everyone involved in organizing this event for allowing us to be part of such a great educational experience!

💙 The future of EMS starts with inspiring the next generation!

🚑🏅 HONORING EXCELLENCE IN EMS — LIFE SAVING PIN RECIPIENTS! 🏅🚑

Hawkins County EMS is proud to recognize three outstanding individuals for their extraordinary teamwork, quick thinking, and lifesaving actions during a critical cardiac emergency on July 16, 2026.

🏅 Paramedic Sarah Johnson

🏅 EMT Kira Jones

🏅 Deputy Chief Wayne Elam

On July 16, crews responded to a patient experiencing chest pain. What began as a cardiac emergency quickly turned into a fight for survival.

Through rapid assessment, decisive action, and exceptional teamwork, crews identified that the patient was suffering from a ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI), commonly known as a heart attack.

During transport, the patient’s condition suddenly deteriorated into ventricular fibrillation, a life-threatening cardiac rhythm. Without hesitation, Paramedic Sarah Johnson delivered an immediate lifesaving defibrillation while Paramedic Wayne Elam initiated CPR.

❤️ In just 57 seconds, the patient went from a life-threatening cardiac rhythm to regaining consciousness!

In an extraordinary moment, the patient became alert enough to physically stop rescuers from performing further chest compressions.

Following continued emergency care and transport, the patient underwent lifesaving cardiac intervention at Holston Valley Medical Center.

Just three days later, on July 19, the patient was discharged home with a full neurological and physical recovery!

This incredible outcome is a testament to the importance of early recognition, advanced clinical skills, effective communication, and teamwork under pressure.

We would also like to recognize Paramedic Jason Murrell, who assisted during this critical call and contributed to the coordinated care provided.

While our crews respond to emergencies every day, moments like these remind us why we do what we do. Behind every uniform is someone dedicated to making a difference, and sometimes that difference means giving someone another chance at life.

👏 Please join us in congratulating Paramedic Sarah Johnson, EMT Kira Jones, and Deputy Chief Wayne Elam on receiving the Hawkins County EMS Life Saving Pin!

Your professionalism, dedication, and commitment to the citizens of Hawkins County represent the very best of emergency medical services.

💙 Because of your actions, a family was given more time with someone they love.

Outstanding work, and congratulations on a job exceptionally well done!

Seat belts protect you and prevent harm to others in a crash. It happens more than you might think—an unbelted driver is injured or killed in a crash every 3 hours and 47 minutes.

However, most Tennesseans know the lifesaving value of seat belts. In 2025, the statewide seat belt rate was 91.3%!
