Congratulations, Kelly!

Last week, Greene County 4-H Extension Agent Kelly Carr traveled to Kansas City, Missouri to attend the National Association of Extension 4-H Youth Development Professionals (NAE4-HYDP) Conference. Kelly presented "A Recipe for Replication: Taking the 4-H In A Bag Cooking Program Statewide," sharing not only the success of the In A Bag Cooking Program, but also practical strategies that Extension professionals can use to successfully replicate and scale programs in their own communities.

While at the conference, Kelly was also recognized with the Achievement in Service Award (ASA). This award honors outstanding early-career 4-H professionals who demonstrate exceptional leadership, innovative program development, and meaningful community impact.

Please join us in congratulating Kelly on this well-deserved recognition and her commitment to serving youth through 4-H!

🌶️ Greene County 4-H In-A-Bag: Chili! 🌶️

Our 4-H In-A-Bag Cooking Program is back with a new and exciting recipe... homemade chili!

This hands-on activity gives youth the opportunity to learn basic cooking skills while creating a delicious batch of chili to enjoy at home. Participants can customize their chili by adding their favorite meat/protein or extra vegetables. This simple recipe wraps up our In-A-Bag series featuring breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snack recipes!

🍲 What is In-A-Bag? In-A-Bag is a FREE cooking kit designed to help youth build confidence in the kitchen while practicing measuring, mixing, and kitchen safety skills. Open to youth ages 5-19, families are encouraged to participate together, and an optional Zoom cook-along will be offered for those who want to make their chili alongside us.

Each kit includes nearly everything needed to make a batch of chili at home, along with easy-to-follow instructions. (A short list of household ingredients will be required.)

Once a 4-H’er, Always a 4-H’er!

About 25 years separate these two photos. One is our 4-H Agent, Kelly Carr as a Cloverbud at the Orange County Fair, pulling her little wagon with a bunny in tow. The other is from this summer, Kelly served as 4-H Camp Director for our camping cluster.

4-H has been a part of Kelly's life for a long time, and it is pretty special to look back and see how those early experiences helped lead her to where she is today. Now, Kelly gets to help create opportunities, experiences, and memories for the next generation of 4-H’ers.

Are you a 4-H Alumni? Share a favorite 4-H memory or photo and tell how 4-H has continued to impact your life below.

It takes a community to make 4-H possible!

We are incredibly thankful for ALL of the people who give their time and talents to support Greene 4-H. From club leaders and camp volunteers to parents, mentors, community partners, and day-of volunteers, every helping hand makes a difference.

Whether you give a few hours or volunteer all year long, your support helps create opportunities for our youth to learn, grow, lead, and belong.

Thank you for being part of what makes Greene 4-H so special!

Learning by Doing!

Last week, we had a great time visiting Agriculture classes at William Monroe Middle School! Students explored the regions of Virginia and discovered how each region plays a unique role in Virginia agriculture.

Through hands-on activities, students identified different agricultural commodities and matched them to the regions where they grow or are produced best.

From crops to livestock, students got to see just how diverse agriculture is across Virginia! Hands-on learning is one of the best ways to learn, explore, and make connections!

What sparks your interest?

For some 4-H'ers, it might be working with an animal. For others, it's learning to cook, serving their community, attending camp, developing leadership skills, or trying something completely new!

4-H gives youth a chance to explore their interests, build skills, and discover what excites them.

Here in Greene County, youth can find their spark through a variety of 4-H clubs and experiences, including:
Horseshoes
Livestock
Rabbits & Poultry
Cloverbuds
Cooking
Teen Leadership
4-H Camp
And more!

Sometimes all it takes is trying something new to discover an interest that sticks with you for years!

What’s YOUR 4-H spark? Tell us in the comments!
