The City of Rye Police Department is reminding residents to lock their vehicles and never leave keys or key fobs inside.

Early this morning, a Rye resident reported their vehicle stolen after leaving the keys inside. The stolen vehicle was observed leaving the City at approximately 3:45 a.m.

Vehicle thefts are often crimes of opportunity. Residents are urged to take a few simple precautions:

Always lock your vehicle doors.

Never leave keys or key fobs inside your vehicle.

Remove valuables and report suspicious activity.

This is the second vehicle in two weeks.
Locking your doors takes only a second. Don’t make it easy for thieves.

*MORNING UPDATE*

Numerous small branches and tree limbs are down throughout the City. DPW crews are actively working to clear debris from the roadways.

With high tide expected at approximately 12:03 PM, DPW has barricades staged and ready to deploy in areas typically affected by coastal flooding, including Tide Mill, Milton Road near the Marina, and Milton Point.

There are no road closures or reports of significant damage as of this post.

Due to saturated ground conditions and strong winds, sporadic downed trees remain possible. Please use caution if you’re out on the roads this Sunday and be alert for fallen trees, limbs, and other debris.

We will continue to provide updates as conditions change.

In addition to the previously issued Wind Advisory, the National Weather Service has now issued a Flood Advisory through 2:00 PM Sunday, September 27th.

Minor to locally moderate tidal flooding is expected in low-lying areas, particularly around times of high tide. Water levels are expected to increase with successive high-tide cycles, with the greatest potential for flooding around Saturday morning’s high tide at 11:00 AM.

Residents should use caution in flood-prone areas and never drive through flooded roadways. Turn around, don’t drown.

We will continue to monitor conditions throughout the weekend and provide additional updates as new information becomes available.

A Nor’easter is expected to impact our area beginning Friday, September 25th, and continuing through Sunday, September 27th. The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory from 2:00 PM Friday, September 25th, through 6:00 AM Sunday, September 27th, with north winds of 20–25 mph and gusts up to 55 mph possible.

Residents are encouraged to prepare ahead of the storm:

• Secure or bring inside outdoor furniture, decorations, garbage cans, and other loose items that could be blown away by strong winds.
• Be prepared for the possibility of downed trees, tree limbs, and power outages.
• Stay away from downed power lines and always treat them as if they are live. Never attempt to move or drive over a downed wire.
