The generosity of our donors makes a lasting difference in the lives of survivors of domestic and s*xual violence in St. Johns County.

We recently gathered at the Palencia Club for our annual Donor Appreciation Event to recognize and thank the members of our Giving Circle of Growth for their continued commitment to Betty Griffin Center.

The program featured remarks from our CEO, Kelly Franklin; a moving and inspirational story shared by a survivor of domestic violence; and donor perspectives from retired Lieutenant Colonel Jeffrey Peppers, now a victim advocate for the Florida National Guard, and Lisa Hickey of perfectwhitetee. We also heard from board member Lauren Howington and Board Chair Brad Long.

During the event, we honored the memory of Mary Lippold, Betty Griffin Center's first advocate, who passed away in August. Her pioneering role in supporting survivors remains an important part of our organization's history.

Members of the Giving Circle of Growth demonstrate their sustaining commitment to Betty Griffin Center through annual gifts of $1,000 or more. Their generosity helps us provide free, life-changing, and life-saving services to survivors and their families.

Thanks to the support of our donors, more than 349 adults and children received safe shelter and transitional housing, totaling 39,612 bed nights. Another 63 survivors of s*xual violence received forensic medical exams through our R**e Care Units.

Our legal advocacy team assisted more than 400 petitioners, while our 24-hour helpline provided survivors, family members, and friends with access to an advocate.

Donor support also helped our community education and outreach programs reach 8,680 students and community members through 415 events.

We also recognize the leadership and dedication of our Board of Directors: Brad Long, chair; Jason Caban, vice chair; John Daly, treasurer; Yanetta Smith, secretary; and board members Bryan Rendzio, Elizabeth Ross, Gina Magnus, Julie Watson, Karen Breakell, Lauren Howington, Lauren Swan Carpenter, Nichole Solana, Sarah Thomas, and Sarah Wagner.

To every member of our Giving Circle of Growth, thank you for believing in our mission and helping us provide safety, support, and hope to thousands of survivors throughout St. Johns County. Your continued partnership makes this important work possible.

Strong community partnerships make a lasting difference in the lives of survivors.

More than 40 area businesses became “ambassadors” for Betty Griffin Center over the last year, providing in-kind and monetary donations to the nonprofit agency that provides emergency shelter and other support services for survivors of domestic and s*xual assault in St. Johns County.

“We want to recognize and thank those individuals and businesses that continue to make our ambassador program a success and are helping us provide life-saving services to our assault survivors each year,” said Betty Griffin Center Development Director Kenlie Herring.

Betty Griffin Center Ambassadors this year include the Horschel Family Foundation, Campbell Plumbing & Mechanical Contractors Southeast, Inc., KeHE Cares, Jacksonville Jaguars Foundation, Ascension St. Vincent’s Jacksonville St. Johns, Hardage Giddens, SouthState Bank, TruTechnology, Old Coast Pickleball, Main Event, Volkswagen of St. Augustine, Atlantic Automotive, Edward Jones - Financial Advisor: Ray Berger, Herbie Wiles Insurance, and VyStar Credit Union — each donating $2,500 up to $10,000 and above to support the agency.

“This generosity from the community directly helps educate the community about domestic and s*xual abuse, which are issues that affect all of us,” Herring said. “As this program enters its fourth year, we encourage more businesses will join their ranks as ambassadors of hope and peace.”

Betty Griffin Center has many ambassador levels, beginning at $500. As an ambassador, people and companies are recognized at the agency’s annual events and marketing efforts and receive other benefits throughout the year.

To find out more about becoming a Betty Griffin Center Ambassador, contact Kenlie Herring at 904-808-8544, ext. 207, or by email at [email protected].

Young people making a difference in our community!

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Youth Group in St. Augustine Shores recently hosted a donation drive and assembled 120 care bags for survivors served by Betty Griffin Center.

During the event, our Event Coordinator, Carole Sullivan, spoke with approximately 30 teens about recognizing healthy and unhealthy relationships.

We're grateful to these young people and their church community for their generosity, compassion, and commitment to helping survivors.

Two causes. One community united in support of survivors.

Thank you to Pink Teacup Events for inviting Betty Griffin Center Event Coordinator Carole Sullivan to Brunch & Bloom: Walking in My Healed Era on Saturday, October 17th, at the W.E. Harris Community Center in Hastings.

The event brought the community together for a walk followed by brunch in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month and Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

One of the most meaningful moments was hearing from survivors of domestic violence and breast cancer who courageously shared their personal experiences. We appreciate the organizers for creating a welcoming space for awareness, encouragement, and connection.

If you are currently experiencing abuse or are a survivor, please reach out to the Betty Griffin Center’s 24-hour crisis hotline at (904) 824-1555, or text us on our website at the link in our profile.
