📬 Friendly fall reminder: Make sure your mailbox is ready for snowplow season!

Before you know it, winter will be here and the snow will be flying! There are many items around the house to prepare before the first snowfall. One that many may neglect to consider is the mailbox.

Having a properly installed mailbox that is up to USPS standards can drastically reduce the probability of your mailbox becoming damaged by the snow or a snow plow. It is important to make any necessary repairs or changes to your mailbox before the winter months.

Any mailboxes that are rotted, damaged, misplaced or deemed as non-compliant per the USPS guidelines will not be eligible for repair by the county in the event that damage to the mailbox occurs during snow removal operations.

Is your mailbox up to USPS current standards and regulations?

🚧 Kane County Annual Pavement Marking Program 🚧

The Kane County Division of Transportation (KDOT) is scheduled to conduct its annual pavement marking work beginning this week, weather permitting. The work will include the installation of both painted and urethane pavement markings on County highways.

🚧 Paint Pavement Markings
Fresh paint pavement markings will be applied to approximately 236 miles of County highways, primarily on rural routes, to improve lane visibility for motorists.

🚧 Urethane Pavement Markings
Urethane pavement markings will be installed on approximately 17 miles of County highways. Urethane provides a more durable alternative to water-based paint and is used primarily on higher-traffic routes to improve the longevity of pavement markings.

Temporary daily lane closures will be in place Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Temporary flagger control at intersections will be used as needed throughout the routes.

Motorists are asked to slow down, watch for workers and equipment on the roadway and shoulders, allow extra travel time, and exercise caution when traveling through freshly marked areas.

Work is anticipated to be completed by the end of October 2026, weather permitting.

📍 Please see the maps included with this post for pavement marking locations.
