Ramsey County Commission District 3, 4, and 6 LWV Forum October 8 2026

A Note to Readers: There is only 1 contested race in this forum in District 3 between the DFL endorsed candidate Garrison McMurtrey and Greg Copeland who is running in a nonpartisan race. Greg has run for the legislature as an endorsed Republican but in this race he is a nonpartisan candidate. He had asked the LWV why there are 2 other candidates answering questions and they told him that voters want to know the opinions of those in uncontested races....

Pioneer Press Questions Asked & Answered To Greg Copeland For Ramsey County District 3

This post is an excerpt from the Pioneer Press' October 5, 2026 Post "2026 Election Ramsey County Races: Here's a look at who is running." Initially the idea was to just put Greg's information here. Then seeing the incumbent's answers to the same questions seem like a word salad that really says he isn't qualified to serve on the board. Then the fact he was endorsed by the DFL in a nonpartisan race says he has no qualifications....

When is the reconstructed Rice Street going to open? Why does it take 6 months to do a project like this?

Why is there no real public input into the Transit projects in the works in our area. Have seen numerous promotions of the planned H-Line Rapid Bus Route. They aren't telling you now that they want to end the convenience of the 3A & 3B bus routes in favor of something that will make it more inconvenient to ride it.

If you look at the A-Line it runs mainly through a couple of business districts. The H-Line will run mainly through residential areas of the University of Minnesota Minneapolis Campus, St Paul Campus, Lake Como & Como Park Neighborhoods, and Maryland Avenue out to Sun Ray Shopping Center at the edge of St Paul & Maplewood (where 3M moved to escape St Paul insanity).

The A-Line killed the 84 Bus Route. The H-Line is going to inconvenience a lot of DFLers who rely upon the bus to get to work, to college, and to the downtowns of St Paul & Minneapolis. They will also be losing a lot of money on H-Line. Even though it is sometimes a difficult guess when the "Trip Agents" will show up on the A-Line, many riders still don't pay to ride it. The H-Line will be a lot longer than the A-Line.

It won't be taking anyone downtown St Paul. The plan was to have a Rapid Bus Route down Rice Street where the current 3A turns from Maryland Ave W. That line will probably replace the 62 Bus. The 62 connects West St Paul with the downtown St Paul (river crossing), through Frogtown, North End, the border of St Paul/Maplewood/Roseville and finally to Little Canada.

Public Input in Metro Transit and Met Council Plans are an irritant to them. It will always be so with an unelected Met Council. They also eliminate bus stops without any public input.

Think about that before you vote in Ramsey County Commission District 3. You'll have a voice on the Commission if you vote for Greg Copeland. The other guy doesn't care about public input it is just another government paycheck to him and his wife Senator Clare Verbeten (SD 66).

Saw a new website that shows whether businesses, politicians, and financial institutions support or not support 2nd Amendment rights. It's called Free2Carry. It's currently in Beta Testing but it looks to be a prominent place to inform consumers and voters which politicians, banks, and businesses that support 2A.

It's not fully rolled out yet.

The City Called St Paul and Ramsey County are teaming up to redo Maryland Avenue on the West Side of I-35E. In a few years they want to remove your parking space in front of your house on Maryland Ave W from Lake Como to Dale, then from there to Rice Street. They want to give a lane to bike travel, make it like they are doing to other main arterial roads into and out of St Paul. Arcade, Dale, Rice Street, and Eastern Maryland Ave from I-35E to Johnson Parkway all have received what's called a "Road Diet."

Larpenteur Ave from Rice Street to I-35E also slimmed down.

This is what wheelage taxes gets you. Less area to drive your vehicle on. Are 15 minute cities not far away?

In a few years the Met Council plans to eliminate the 3A Bus route and replace it with the H-Line Rapid Bus Route. The Bus Stops will be every 1/4 mile instead of every 2 blocks. It will run from Downtown Mpls to Como, around Lake Como, down Maryland stopping at Dale, Western, Rice then over the highway to farther to Sun Ray Shopping Center. Isn't Metro Transit supposed to help people get to work, to shop, and to school? The H-Line makes Riders less important as they'll have to go far out of their way to ride it. The A-Line is a prime example of how riders don't pay to ride.

Isn't it time to put a stop to this insanity?
