CIC Disrupts Terrorist Plot in Panama (19 FEB 1945) 02/18/2026

Griffins! This week in history...
🕵️‍♂️ How the 470th CIC Detachment Stopped a Terror Plot
When a bomb injured two U.S. Army officers in Panama in 1945, the 470th CIC Detachment was tasked with the investigation. Their mission was to uncover the truth behind the attack, all while keeping official U.S. interest in Panama's political turmoil under wraps.

An agent from the 470th, responsible for security in the Canal Zone, skillfully cultivated an informant. This critical step unraveled a massive terrorist plot by political exiles, which included plans for more bombings, arson, and even an assassination.

The intelligence gathered directly by the 470th CIC Detachment was the decisive factor. It gave the State Department the evidence needed to act, ultimately preventing further violence and stabilizing a volatile political situation. A textbook example of crucial counterintelligence work!
