Today, members of the Close to Home team rolled up their sleeves to support our neighbors who have served! The group assembled 250 Billy Bundles to distribute at the American GI Forum National Veterans Outreach Program Inc 28th Annual Veterans Stand Down event on November 6th.

Billy Bundles are care packages filled with essential personal hygiene items and everyday necessities for neighbors experiencing homelessness or housing instability. These bundles provide more than basic supplies—they offer comfort, dignity, and a reminder that our Veterans are not forgotten.

The annual Veterans Stand Down is an important opportunity to connect Veterans in need with critical resources, supportive services, and community partners who can help them access health care, housing assistance, benefits, and pathways toward long-term stability.

At Close to Home, we know that ending Veteran homelessness takes collaboration, compassion, and a community committed to ensuring that those who served our country have a safe place to call home.

🎉 Happy 7th Workiversary to Pat! 🎉 Today, we're celebrating seven years of dedication, leadership, and impact from our Director of System Response, Pat Guzman! Pat plays an essential role in strengthening our community's Homeless Response System, bringing together partners, navigating complex challenges, and helping turn collaboration into meaningful action. Her commitment to empowering her team, building strong relationships, and finding solutions that move our community forward is reflected in everything she does. Whether she's tackling big-picture system challenges or supporting her colleagues, Pat leads with compassion, accountability, and a dedication to our mission. Thank you, Pat for all you do to help make homelessness rare, brief, and nonrecurring in San Antonio and Bexar County!

Last week, Close to Home was honored to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony for Bexar County’s new shared facility housing the Community Resources and Public Health departments.

We enjoyed touring the facility and seeing how this collaborative space will help connect individuals and families with essential resources, reduce barriers, and strengthen access to services in our community.

Your Voice Matters. Your Vote Matters. Early voting begins today in Texas! As our community heads to the polls, we're reminding our neighbors that experiencing homelessness does not mean losing your right to vote. You do not need a permanent home to be eligible to vote. Individuals experiencing homelessness can register and vote in Texas, provided they meet the state's voter eligibility and registration requirements. Every eligible voter deserves the opportunity to participate in the decisions that shape our community, regardless of their housing situation. Today we observe !

During the 2026 Point-in-Time Count, 329 individuals reported experiencing domestic violence, reinforcing that domestic violence remains a major factor contributing to housing instability and homelessness in San Antonio and Bexar County.

By wearing purple, we show our support for survivors, honor victims, demonstrate our commitment to creating pathways to safe housing, and raise awareness about the importance of ending domestic violence.

If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, please contact FVPS Battered Women's and Children's Shelter for 24/7 support and assistance 210-733-8810. You can also visit the Find Resources section of the Close to Home website to learn more about domestic violence resources available in our community.

Together, we can raise awareness, support survivors, and work toward a future free from violence because everyone deserves a safe place to call home.

At Close to Home, we believe one of the best ways to end homelessness is to prevent it from happening in the first place.

Sustain SA is an expansion of our existing Diversion Program, designed to help families in San Antonio and Bexar County remain safely housed during times of crisis. For many families in our community, one unexpected expense can mean the difference between having a place to call home and experiencing homelessness.

Through Sustain SA, Close to Home will expand access to immediate, flexible assistance, including housing-related financial support, transportation, utility assistance, and connections to community resources that can address housing crises before they escalate. This support will help families avoid the trauma of homelessness while maintaining connections to schools, employment, healthcare, and their support systems.

We’re honored to be selected as one of Impact San Antonio's $100,000 Grant Award finalists! If awarded, Sustain SA could help an additional 80–85 families avoid homelessness!
