Behind every confident first grader is a kindergarten teacher who made them believe they could do it. At Corky McMillin Elementary, that teacher is Sandy Pembleton. With 20 years of teaching experience and 11 years dedicated to the magic of kindergarten, she ensures that every child who walks through her door feels safe, loved, and confident enough to take on the world.
She shares, "I get to witness the transformation and see the twinkling in their eyes every time they master learning something new." At , we are proud to have educators like Ms. Pembleton whose dedication to her students is felt in everything she does, from the very first day of school to the last. Congratulations to Enrique S. Camarena Elementary School for being recognized today at the 2025 California Blue Ribbon School Awards Ceremony, hosted by the California Department of Education. Camarena is one of only 31 schools in the state selected, and one of 11 elementary schools. This prestigious recognition honors schools that close the achievement and opportunity gaps, as well as those whose students demonstrate exceptionally high level of academic success. is so proud!

Last week, celebrated its 100th Masonic Awards Celebration for sixth-grade students across the district, recognizing students' good citizenship. This long-standing tradition, held in recognition of California’s Public Schools Month, celebrates the value of public education and the students who exemplify leadership, character, and the promise of a bright future. Did you know the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) is one of the ways we measure student learning and progress toward California state standards each year?
