Hey Canadians in San Diego — it's "Community & Culture" time! 🍁

🍁 THINGS ONLY CANADIANS IN SAN DIEGO UNDERSTAND

A love letter to the specific experience of being Canadian in America's Finest City:

😅 Accidentally saying "sorry" to a chair you bumped into and two Americans nearby thinking you were apologizing to them

đŸŒĄī¸ San Diegans are wearing North Face in 18°C. You are in shorts. You will always be in shorts.

đŸĨ¤ You said "pop" at a restaurant and the server said "sorry?" and you said "sorry?" back and nobody knew what was happening

🍁 You have explained what a loonie is approximately 400 times

â›Ŋ You still instinctively calculate gas prices in litres even though everything here is in gallons

🏒 You've tried to explain hockey playoff intensity to someone who has never watched hockey. You have failed.

🍟 You have a Tim Hortons radar in your brain that activates when you cross the border back into Canada. It fires up somewhere around the 401.

🇨đŸ‡Ļ And yet — you chose this city. And this city is pretty great.

Would there be any interest in organizing a group outing to see Come From Away at the Moonlight Theatre when it comes to San Diego this September?

The award-winning musical tells the incredible true story of the 38 planes that were diverted to Gander, Newfoundland, on September 11, 2001, and the small Canadian community that welcomed nearly 7,000 stranded passengers with open arms. It's a heartwarming story of kindness, generosity, and the best of what it means to be Canadian.

📅 Performance Dates: September 9–26

Before I look into group tickets, I'd like to gauge interest from our Canadian community.

If you'd be interested in attending, please comment below or send me a message. If we have enough interest, I'll explore group seating and possibly organize a pre-show meet-up.

Who would be interested in joining us? What's your connection to Newfoundland or the events of 9/11? 🍁

Happy Monday! 🍁 Here is a Useful Canada-in-San Diego post to get your week rolling.

☁ī¸ JUNE GLOOM — YOUR OFFICIAL CANADIAN SURVIVAL GUIDE

Welcome to June in San Diego, where locals are DISTRAUGHT by "June Gloom" — cloudy mornings, overcast skies, and the audacity of temperatures below 25°C.

We, of course, are fine. We are more than fine. We are thriving.

Here's how June actually works in San Diego:
đŸŒĢī¸ Mornings: Marine layer rolls in overnight — cool, grey, and honestly peaceful
☀ī¸ By midday: Almost always burns off to full sunshine by noon or 1pm
đŸŒĄī¸ Highs: Around 22–24°C (72–75°F). Zero rain. Basically zero.
🌊 Ocean temps: Starting to warm up — getting swimmable for those of us who've survived Canadian lakes

🇨đŸ‡Ļ CANADIAN PRO TIPS FOR JUNE:
â€ĸ Morning hikes at Torrey Pines or Cowles Mountain in the mist are absolutely stunning — locals skip them, we show up
â€ĸ San Diego County Fair opens at Del Mar mid-June — think a very sunny, taco-forward version of a Canadian fall fair
â€ĸ Free outdoor concerts start up all over the city — Balboa Park, Coronado, and more
â€ĸ La Jolla Shores: leopard sharks begin arriving in June — totally harmless and an incredible snorkel experience

Reminder: June here is still better than August in most of Canada. Enjoy every second. ☀ī¸

Hey Canadians in San Diego — it's "Community & Culture" time! 🍁

🌕 IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: CANADA WENT TO THE MOON LAST MONTH

Col. Jeremy Hansen — Royal Canadian Air Force fighter pilot, Canadian Space Agency astronaut, and absolute legend — flew around the Moon as part of NASA's Artemis II mission and splashed down safely in the Pacific Ocean on April 10.

He became the first Canadian, and the first non-American EVER, to travel beyond Earth's orbit. The Artemis II crew also broke the record for the farthest distance any humans have ever traveled from Earth.

And why did Canada get a seat on this historic mission? The Canadarm. Decades of Canadian space robotics expertise so impressive that NASA said "yep, bring a Canadian."

đŸĻž The Canadarm has been part of space missions since 1981 — fixing satellites, scanning space shuttles, catching cargo ships — often doing jobs it was never even designed for. Quietly Canadian. Quietly ELITE.

We're celebrating this one all month.

🇨đŸ‡Ļ Jeremy Hansen. CF-18 fighter pilot. Lunar astronaut. Canadian.

Tell someone today that Canada went to the Moon. Watch their face. 🚀
