Originally known as one of Scandinavia’s leading jazz saxophonists, Kornstad later trained as an opera singer and now combines both worlds in a truly distinctive performance. Using looping techniques, tenor sax, and his operatic voice, he creates a rich and immersive one-man musical experience.

Norwegian artist Harald Austad opens his first solo exhibition in the U.S. 🇳🇴🎨

“Power Portraits” will be on view at Corey Helford Gallery in Los Angeles from April 4 to May 9 – showcasing a bold and distinctive artistic style inspired by color, design and Norwegian references.

Congratulations to the team behind Sentimental Value! 🎬✨

Joachim Trier’s Sentimental Value has won the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film — the first time a Norwegian feature film has received this honor!✨

Never before has Norwegian film had such a strong presence at the Oscars! This year Norway received a record of 11 nominations across several categories. Sentimental Value alone was nominated for nine Oscars, including Best Picture and Best International Feature Film. The Ugly Stepsister, directed by Emilie Blichfeldt, was nominated for Best Makeup and Hairstyling, and Espen Nordahl at Norwegian VFX company Storm Studios received a nomination for Best Visual Effects for Sinners

“I’m just a film nerd from Norway,” Trier said from the stage during his acceptance speech. He also referenced the American writer James Baldwin, reminding the audience that “all adults are responsible for all children” ; a gentle nudge to take our responsibilities seriously.

During Oscar week, the Norwegian Consulate General in San Francisco has been present in Hollywood celebrating this milestone moment for Norwegian cinema. Yesterday we joined the Oscar screening hosted by at Andaz West Hollywood. Thank you for a great evening! ✨

🎬 Norway at the Oscars

Norwegian film has a historic presence in Hollywood this year with 11 Academy Award nominations.

Last night, Minister of Culture and Equality Lubna Jaffery spoke at the Norwegian Film Institute’s celebration of this year’s Oscar nominees. Representatives from the Norwegian Consulate General in San Francisco are also in Los Angeles to support the Norwegian nominees and strengthen collaboration between the Norwegian and U.S. film industries. 🇳🇴🇺🇸

A proud moment for Norwegian film and for the incredible creative talent bringing our stories to the world stage. 🎬✨

The Academy Awards ceremony takes place tomorrow, and we wish all the nominees the very best of luck! 🏆🎭

This week, we received our 500th medically evacuated patient from Ukraine — a significant milestone in our humanitarian effort.

Since 2022, more than 2,750 Ukrainian patients have been transported to Norway and other European countries through the Union Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM) — the largest air evacuation Norway has ever carried out.

Norway stands with the people of Ukraine — in words and in action.

This weekend we attended Ski for Light in Colorado. The 51st edition of the event was held at Snow Mountain Ranch near Granby and brings together visually and mobility-impaired athletes and volunteers for cross-country skiing and inclusive outdoor experiences. Ski for Light is the sister program of Norway’s Ridderrennet and shares the same tradition of accessible winter sports.

Thank you to the athletes, volunteers, and organizers for a memorable and inspiring weekend.

Security in the Arctic is high on the agenda. Today, Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide and the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Kaja Kallas, took part in the Arctic Frontiers conference in Tromsø—a key meeting place for discussing developments in the North.

Important themes such as security, international cooperation, and the unique expertise Norway contributes as a polar nation are addressed here.

Meet Harald Kjønnø Schaanning, our newest team member!👋

Harald joins us as a student intern and is pursuing a master’s degree in Economics and Business Administration at NTNU in Trondheim.

During his internship, Harald will gain insight into the work of the Consulate General in San Francisco, including technology diplomacy, business promotion, and Norway’s engagement with the 13 western states of the United States.🇳🇴🇺🇸
