Meals on Wheels for Santa Cruz County Enhancing lives through healthy meals and friendly human contact. Nurturing elders at one of five dining sites, or meals delivered to the home.

Meals on Wheels for Santa Cruz County is a program of Community Bridges. We help vulnerable seniors and disabled residents live independent lives. When given the choice, most elders choose to stay in their own homes rather than move to an assisted living residence or nursing home. Our program helps make that quality of life choice possible for elders who are unable to cook or shop for themselves. In addition to providing a daily balanced meal that meets the California Department of Aging nutrition standards, our team of staff and volunteers bring a smiling face and human contact to home-bound seniors - in some cases the only human contact our clients may see that day. Additionally, our five dining centers offer a variety of activities and a free hot meal to anyone 60 years of age or older. MEETING LOCAL NEEDS
The California Elder Economic Security Standard Index, known as the Elder index, indicates that 42% of all elders aged 65 or older do not have enough income to meet their most basic needs. That’s over 11,000 elders struggling to make ends meet in Santa Cruz County and an additional 9,000 fall into the “eligibility gap” with incomes above the federal poverty line, but insufficient to cover basic needs. Our meals program is a critical piece of the effort to meet the needs of this vulnerable population. For more information about Meals on Wheels of Santa Cruz County, go to communitybridges.org/mow

Costumes or no costumes, every child deserves a chance to play and feel included.

This Halloween, we’re celebrating the imagination and joy children bring to our community. Thank you to the families, early educators, and neighbors who make space for every child to participate in their own way.

Wishing you a safe and joyful Halloween from Community Bridges!

⏰ Fall back! It's that time of year again!

Daylight Saving Time ends Sunday, November 1! Don't forget to set your clocks back one hour.

As the days get shorter, changes in daylight can affect our sleep, energy, and daily routines. A few simple habits can help make the transition a little easier:

- Get some natural sunlight during the day.
- Stick to a consistent sleep schedule.
- Stay active and make time to get outdoors.
- Give yourself a little time to adjust.

And don't forget to enjoy that extra hour of rest! 🍂

A meal can help a child grow, support an older adult’s health, and bring reassurance to someone facing a difficult week. Everyone deserves access to food with dignity.

On World Food Day, we recognize the neighbors and partners working to make nourishment more accessible. Across Community Bridges, WIC, Family Resource Collective food distribution, Meals on Wheels, and the Child & Adult Care Food Program support people at different stages of life.

Indigenous histories are living histories.

On Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we recognize the histories, cultures, and leadership of Indigenous peoples throughout the Central Coast. The Amah Mutsun Tribal Band is one of the Native communities with deep ties to the greater Monterey Bay region and continues to share its history and care for ancestral lands.

Respect calls us to listen to Native voices and learn the fuller history of the places we call home. Learn directly from the Amah Mutsun Tribal Band at amahmutsun.org/history.

Preparedness starts close to home.

This week, choose three actions:

• Prepare or refresh your emergency go-bag.
• Confirm your emergency contacts and evacuation plan.
• Check in with a neighbor who may need extra time, transportation or support.

A phone call, shared ride plan or translated resource can make a meaningful difference. When neighbors look out for one another, preparedness becomes community care.

¡Feliz Día de la Independencia de México!

Today we honor Mexico’s history, culture and enduring spirit—and celebrate the Mexican and Mexican American community members whose leadership, traditions, creativity and care strengthen the Central Coast.

Community thrives when people can take pride in who they are, share their heritage across generations and shape our future together.

¡Viva México!
