Little Learners, BIG Glow!
Our preschool was glowing with fun as families came together for another awesome Light Up with Literacy Night! Black lights, bright colors, and plenty of hands-on fun transformed the evening into a glowing adventure! From neon games and creative building challenges to glowing play-dough and literacy activities, our littlest learners had a blast exploring, creating, and learning alongside their families.

¡Nuestra guardería rebosaba de alegría mientras las familias se reunían para otra fantástica Noche de Lectura y Aprendizaje! Luces negras, colores brillantes y un montón de actividades prácticas transformaron la velada en una aventura luminosa. Desde juegos de neón y desafíos creativos de construcción hasta plastilina fluorescente y actividades de lectoescritura, nuestros pequeños aprendices se divirtieron muchísimo explorando, creando y aprendiendo junto a sus familias.

A Hoot of a Time with the Bird Alliance!
Just in time for Halloween, our 5th graders welcomed some special visitors from the Bird Alliance of Oregon! Students learned what makes a bird different from a mammal, explored the similarities and differences between owls and bats, and even got an up-close look at preserved specimens of these fascinating creatures! It was a fun, hands-on learning experience that sparked plenty of curiosity and great conversations!

A big thank-you to the Bird Alliance of Oregon for sharing their knowledge and to SEPO for making this special visit possible!

¡Lo pasamos de maravilla con la Alianza de las Aves!
¡Justo a tiempo para Halloween, nuestros alumnos de quinto grado recibieron la visita de unos invitados especiales de la Alianza de Aves de Oregón! Los estudiantes aprendieron qué diferencia a un ave de un mamífero, exploraron las similitudes y diferencias entre búhos y murciélagos, ¡e incluso pudieron observar de cerca ejemplares conservados de estas fascinantes criaturas! Fue una experiencia de aprendizaje práctica y divertida que despertó mucha curiosidad y generó conversaciones muy interesantes.

¡Muchísimas gracias a la Bird Alliance of Oregon por compartir sus conocimientos y a SEPO por hacer posible esta visita tan especial!

What a week of Homecoming fun! Scappoose spirit was out in full force as students and staff brought this year’s Hunger Games theme to life with incredible energy, creativity, and enthusiasm all week long! From spirited dress-up days and an electric pep rally to a Homecoming Parade filled with community pride, the excitement was contagious! And the weather couldn't have been better, with warm sunshine making for a picture-perfect fall celebration!

The excitement continued with a HUGE win on the football field and a fun-filled Homecoming Dance to wrap up the festivities! From our classrooms to the parade route, the stands, and beyond, it was an awesome display of the school spirit and community pride that make Scappoose such a special place to call home!

¡Qué semana de diversión en el Homecoming! El espíritu de Scappoose se hizo presente con toda su fuerza, ya que los estudiantes y el personal trajeron el espíritu de este año. Los Juegos del Hambre ¡El tema cobró vida con una energía, creatividad y entusiasmo increíbles durante toda la semana! Desde días de disfraces llenos de vitalidad y una animada concentración hasta un desfile de bienvenida rebosante de orgullo comunitario, ¡la emoción fue contagiosa! Y el clima no pudo haber sido mejor, con un sol radiante que hizo de esta una celebración otoñal perfecta.

La emoción continuó con una ENORME victoria en el campo de fútbol y un baile de bienvenida lleno de diversión para cerrar las festividades. Desde nuestras aulas hasta el recorrido del desfile, las gradas y más allá, fue una magnífica muestra del espíritu escolar y el orgullo comunitario que hacen de Scappoose un lugar tan especial para llamar hogar.

September’s ELKS Student of the Month is Madelyn Nehl. She is not only an exemplary student, but is also incredibly involved in activities outside of school.

Maddie is a member of advanced leadership, and is currently the ASB Vice President. She has also been part of the yearbook team for two years, and now serves as the editor. Both of these roles come with an incredible amount of responsibility and demonstrate her desire to make a positive impact within the school. Her favorite aspect of Scappoose High School is its students, and her favorite teacher is Mr. Hedger. Maddie enjoys English, where her teacher applauds her level of participation, stating that she steps up whenever she is needed and does so with grace.

She also shows active involvement in our community, acting as the K-12 Student School Board Representative. Maddie is a varsity athlete, being a setter on the Scappoose volleyball team.
After high school, she plans to attend college and get a bachelor’s degree, later becoming a construction project manager.

La alumna del mes de septiembre de ELKS es Madelyn Nehl. No solo es una estudiante ejemplar, sino que también participa activamente en actividades extracurriculares.

Maddie es miembro del equipo directivo avanzado y actualmente es la vicepresidenta de la ASB. También ha formado parte del equipo del anuario durante dos años y ahora es la editora. Ambos roles conllevan una gran responsabilidad y demuestran su deseo de generar un impacto positivo en la escuela. Lo que más le gusta de la preparatoria Scappoose son sus estudiantes, y su profesor favorito es el Sr. Hedger. A Maddie le gusta la clase de inglés, donde su profesor elogia su participación, destacando que siempre está dispuesta a ayudar cuando se la necesita y lo hace con gran elegancia.

Además, participa activamente en nuestra comunidad, desempeñándose como representante estudiantil del consejo escolar para los grados K-12. Maddie es atleta del equipo universitario, jugando como colocadora en el equipo de voleibol de Scappoose.

Tras terminar el instituto, planea ir a la universidad y obtener una licenciatura, para luego convertirse en gerente de proyectos de construcción.

October’s ELKS Student of the Month is Seth Morris. Seth is heavily involved in both Scappoose sports and leadership within the community.

Seth has played varsity soccer for all four years of high school and is currently a team captain, as well as being a member of the basketball team. He is also a leader of Club 3:16. All of these activities show his dedication and drive, as well as his ability to be a positive role model for others.

Seth’s favorite part about Scappoose High School are its teachers, especially Ms. Fajardo and Mr. Nowlin. He has maintained an impressive 4.0 GPA throughout high school. Outside of school, he is involved in his local youth group and tries to make an impact on younger peers by always being positive. After high school, Seth plans on attending a small, private Christian college and possibly pursuing a Ministry degree.

El estudiante del mes de octubre de ELKS es Seth Morris. Seth participa activamente tanto en los deportes de Scappoose como en el liderazgo dentro de la comunidad.

Seth ha jugado en el equipo de fútbol de su escuela secundaria durante los cuatro años y actualmente es capitán, además de ser miembro del equipo de baloncesto. También es líder del Club 3:16. SHS students explored the possibilities of manufacturing at last week’s annual Manufacturing Day at PCC/OMIC! Joining students from several other districts, they visited learning stations, watched demonstrations, and connected with industry leaders to discover the skills, training, and career pathways behind a wide range of manufacturing jobs.

An extra-special highlight? A couple of SHS graduates were leading demonstrations themselves! It was a fun full-circle moment, seeing former students share their skills and help inspire the next generation.

Los estudiantes de SHS exploraron las posibilidades de la manufactura en el Día Anual de la Manufactura que se celebró la semana pasada en PCC/OMIC. Junto con estudiantes de otros distritos, visitaron estaciones de aprendizaje, presenciaron demostraciones y se conectaron con líderes de la industria para descubrir las habilidades, la capacitación y las trayectorias profesionales que hay detrás de una amplia gama de empleos en el sector manufacturero.

¿Un momento especialmente memorable? ¡Un par de graduados de SHS estuvieron dirigiendo las demostraciones! Fue un momento muy emotivo, un verdadero hito, ver a antiguos alumnos compartir sus habilidades e inspirar a la próxima generación.

An adventure to remember for Grant Watts first graders! Students visited the Scappoose Fire Station this week for a full station tour, explored an ambulance and fire engine, and got an up-close look at the gear firefighters wear when answering a call. The grand finale? Taking their oath as honorary junior firefighters with Fire Chief Pricher! A big thank-you to our Scappoose firefighters for welcoming these eager learners and making their visit extra special!

¡Una aventura inolvidable para los alumnos de primer grado de Grant Watts! Esta semana, los estudiantes visitaron la estación de bomberos de Scappoose para realizar un recorrido completo, exploraron una ambulancia y un camión de bomberos, y observaron de cerca el equipo que usan los bomberos al responder a una llamada. ¿El broche de oro? ¡Prestar juramento como bomberos honorarios juveniles ante el jefe de bomberos Pricher! ¡Muchas gracias a nuestros bomberos de Scappoose por recibir a estos entusiastas estudiantes y hacer que su visita fuera tan especial!

Ready, set, RUN! Students at Warren, Grant Watts, Sauvie Island School, and Scappoose Middle School brought big energy and plenty of school spirit to their annual jog-a-thons and fun runs! Every lap helped raise money for activities and opportunities at their schools, and even some staff joined the action. Shout-out to SMS Principal Strachan for lacing up and hitting the track!

SMS also celebrated a major milestone: its 20th annual jog-a-thon! Twenty years of moving, cheering, and making a difference! What a tradition!

A huge thank-you to the volunteers and organizers who made it all happen! Your time, energy, and enthusiasm made these events a success and helped make every lap count!

Following this summer’s recommendation to continue the planning process and the School Board’s approval, we’re excited to keep exploring possibilities, listening to community perspectives, and working together to help shape the future of our schools.
