Happy National Black Cat Day! 🐈‍⬛

It's time for another New Leash on Life update! Remember Midnight? This adorable black kitten is now named Haunter, and his new family is discovering just how much personality can fit into one little cat!

Black cats are sometimes overlooked in shelters because of old superstitions and a preference for cats with more colorful coats. But Haunter is proving that a cat's color has nothing to do with how much love and joy they can bring to a home.

When Haunter is ready to play, he hides in the darkest corner of the room, waiting for just the right moment to pounce. His two older feline brothers have quickly learned that life with an energetic kitten is never boring!

But Haunter has a softer side, too. He loves riding on his family's shoulders and curling up on them whenever they sit down. At his first vet visit, he purred so loudly that the veterinarian had trouble hearing his heartbeat!

We love hearing how much happiness Haunter has brought to his new home. From Midnight at the shelter to Haunter the playful little shadow, his story is a wonderful reminder that every shelter pet deserves a chance, no matter the color of their coat. 🐾

Meet Chestnut and Praline! 🍂

Fall just got a little sweeter at the Seabrook Animal Shelter!

Meet Chestnut and Praline, our newest (and youngest!) shelter residents. These adorable sisters are believed to be terrier-shepherd mixes, and they have plenty of puppy love to share.

Chestnut is the outgoing sister. With her warm, friendly personality, she's always excited to meet someone new. Whether you're a familiar face or a new friend, Chestnut is happy to say hello!

Praline is a little more shy, but don't let that fool you. This sweet girl has a gentle spirit, a wagging tail and a smile that's hard to resist. She may take a little time to warm up, but she has plenty of love to give.

One thing these sisters have in common? They both love belly rubs!

With their beautiful, fall-colored coats and sweet personalities, Chestnut and Praline are ready to find loving homes of their own.

Could one of these sweet sisters be the perfect addition to your family? 🐾

It's time for another New Leash on Life update! Meet Doja, a sweet tabby who traded life at the shelter for a loving family and a road trip all the way to Arkansas!

At the shelter, Doja often hid beneath her blankets. But her new family saw how special she was and couldn't wait to bring her home.

Doja was nervous at first during the eight-hour drive, but once she felt safe, she settled right in! Her family even had a special window bed for her, where she could relax, watch the road, and enjoy her new adventure.

Once home, Doja wasted no time showing off her big personality! She confidently walks among her new feline and canine siblings like she owns the place. She also loves attention and isn't shy about letting her family know when she wants to be picked up!

Her family says Doja is sweet, strong-willed, and already a beloved member of the household.

From hiding under blankets to enjoying the view from her very own window seat, Doja's journey is a wonderful reminder of how much a loving home can change a shelter pet's life. 🐾

Meet Louella Breeze!

Her name suits her perfectly. “Louella” reflects the little warrior she has proven to be, while “Breeze” captures her calm, easygoing personality.

Louella is a beautiful, gentle girl who is still learning how to relax and enjoy being a cat in her new surroundings. She is getting used to wearing a collar and is still trying to figure out exactly where that little bell sound keeps coming from. In the meantime, she is enjoying a clean, comfortable place to sleep, plenty of toys, and the chance to feel safe.

We may not know how this sweetheart ended up living on the streets, but we do know Louella has a heart of gold. She has shown us nothing but a gentle spirit and is happy to be picked up and carried in your arms.

Louella could also enjoy having feline friends in her future home. She is a little shy around dogs, so she may need some extra time and patience when meeting them.

Louella Breeze is ready to give her heart to someone special. Could that someone be you? 🐾

New Leash on Life: Chickpea, now Elise

Remember Chickpea? This sweet kitten has a new name, Elise, and we are happy to share an update from her new home!

When Elise first arrived home, she was understandably nervous about her new surroundings. She spent much of her time hiding under furniture and in closets, and even small sounds could startle her. Her family gave her plenty of time, patience, and space to adjust without rushing her.

Little by little, Elise began to come out of her shell. New toys, treats, and plenty of playtime helped her grow more comfortable and confident.

Now, Elise has completely blossomed! She is playful, curious, and always ready for attention. She follows her family around the house, has become quite the talker, and even makes sure homework does not get too much attention by pawing at legs or hopping onto the desk.

Elise has also found her favorite place to sleep. Instead of the bed she brought home from the shelter, she now curls up in bed with her adopter every night.

We love seeing how far Elise has come and hearing how much joy she has brought to her new family. From a shy little Chickpea to a confident and loved Elise, this is exactly the kind of new beginning we hope for every shelter pet. 🐾

October is Adopt a Shelter Dog Month, and little Diggory wants to remind everyone that plenty of wonderful pups are waiting to find their families.

His scarf may be just a little too big, but Diggory is still a baby, so he has some growing to do! This sweet boy is always looking for a friend to play with. Now that his traveling companion, Blitz, has been adopted, Diggory is hoping his turn will be next.

If you are looking for a playful young companion, stop by the Seabrook Animal Control & Adoption Center and meet Diggory. Maybe you could be his next favorite playmate and his forever family. 🐾

Remember Beryl? We have a happy update!

It turns out our blue-eyed friend already had a name, a family, and a home waiting for him.

His name is Yokio Torah, a name his family chose to mean “snow tiger” in Japanese. Yokio is from Friendswood, several miles away from the Seabrook Animal Control & Adoption Center. We may never know how his journey brought him to Seabrook, but thankfully, his story found its way back to the right person.

Yokio’s owner, Cynthia, recognized him in our Facebook post and came to the shelter with happy tears to bring him home. She shared that she had never stopped looking for him and had loved him since he was a baby.

Before heading home, Cynthia accepted our offer to microchip Yokio. Since Yokio loves spending time outdoors, she also plans to get him a “catio” so he can safely enjoy the fresh air while staying close to home.

Now, Yokio is back where he belongs, sleeping alongside his human siblings and even enjoying real salmon for supper.

We are so happy we could help reunite Cynthia with her beloved Yokio and give this story the happy ending they both deserved. 🐾

Meet Beryl!

Beryl gets his name from his beautiful aquamarine eyes, but there is plenty more to love about this handsome cat.

He is happiest around people and would do best in a home where he can be the only pet. A family with older children would also be the best fit for him. Beryl has a big personality, loves attention, and gets especially excited when it is time to eat. You can count on him to leave a clean plate behind.

Beryl was found along the trails and brought to the shelter. Now, he is ready to trade his days of wandering for a comfortable home and a family of his own.

Stop by the Seabrook Animal Control & Adoption Center to meet Beryl and see if he's the right fit for your family. 🐾

Meet Stormy, a playful dog who has been at the Seabrook Animal Shelter for more than a year.

Stormy is often overlooked because of her dark coat. In the sunlight, her brown highlights shine, and her light brown eyes stand out.

This silly girl loves running laps around the yard and is always the last to head back to her kennel when playtime ends. Her long stay hasn’t dampened her cheerful spirit.

If you’re considering adoption, contact the Seabrook Animal Shelter to learn more about Stormy and whether she's a good match for your home.
