Election season is almost upon us, and I want to bring some awareness to the negative and misleading political mailers that may soon start showing up in our mailboxes.
Election Day is November 3rd. Make a plan, get to the polls, and make your voice heard. No matter who you vote for, participating in our elections matters. Your vote matters. Your opinions matter.
I believe we can disagree respectfully. What I’m tired of seeing is negative campaigning and mailers designed to influence our elections through personal attacks and misinformation rather than honest conversations about the issues.
I ran for office last year, and I saw firsthand how ugly things can get. Mailers containing statements about me and my campaign that I believe were outright lies were sent to voters. They even dragged my grandfather’s 1979 campaign into it. That is a level of negativity that has no place in local elections.
Our elections should be decided by honest conversations, hard work, and the people who actually live in our community — not by a handful of hateful mailers funded by out-of-state interests with no real connection to our town or its future.
I worked hard during my campaign. I went door-to-door almost every day, made videos highlighting and supporting local small businesses, and continue to make an effort to stay involved in our community. I believe showing up, listening to people, and doing the work should matter far more than the money spent on negative mailers.
Please take the time to do your own research, ask questions, have respectful conversations, and look beyond what arrives in your mailbox. We can hold candidates accountable without tearing people down.
And if you’re looking for a yard sign for Jennifer Wick or Kristen Fleming, please reach out to me, and I’ll help get you connected!
Let’s keep our elections focused on our community, our future, and the issues that actually matter.
