Monday night was Family Night at the Connecticut Fire Academy, giving families the opportunity to see firsthand the firefighting skills recruits have been developing over the past seven weeks.

Echo Hose Hook & Ladder Co. 1 is proud to have two of our members, Marc Steinberg and Mike DiBartolomeo, attending the academy’s Recruit Class 79!

We’re proud of their hard work, dedication, and commitment to serving our community. A special thank-you to their families for the support and encouragement they provide throughout this demanding training program.

Keep up the great work, Marc and Mike! 💪

Today, a monument commemorating the historic B.F. Goodrich Fire of March 1, 1975, was proudly unveiled at the very site where the fire occurred, serving as a lasting tribute to the firefighters who answered the call more than five decades ago.

This monument serves as a lasting tribute to the 102 members of the Echo Hose Hook & Ladder Co. 1, along with the mutual aid companies that answered the call during this significant fire.

More than five decades later, we remember the courage, dedication, sacrifice, and brotherhood demonstrated by the firefighters who responded that day. Their commitment to protecting our community remains an important part of our company’s history.

This monument will stand as a permanent reminder of their service, ensuring that future generations never forget the events of March 1, 1975, and the firefighters who answered the call.

This morning, members of the Echo Hose Hook & Ladder Co. 1 responded mutual aid with Squad 1 to the City of Derby for a reported motor vehicle accident with entrapment.

Upon arrival, crews found a tractor-trailer that had struck a stone wall, leaving the driver heavily entrapped inside the cab. Crews worked for approximately 45 minutes to stabilize the vehicle and safely extricate the driver, utilizing specialized stabilization and hydraulic rescue equipment.

The incident was a tremendous coordinated effort led by the Derby Fire Department, Derby, CT and Storm Engine Co./Ambulance Corps Co. 2, with mutual aid assistance from the Ansonia Fire Department and Shelton Fire Department.

Incidents like this demonstrate the importance of strong mutual aid partnerships, specialized training, and teamwork between neighboring departments when faced with complex rescue operations.

We’re proud to work alongside our neighboring departments when called upon.

This evening, members of the Echo Hose Hook & Ladder Co. 1 rescued a kitten that had become trapped in a storm drain on Lake Road.

Thankfully, the little one was safely removed and is now out of harm’s way!

We’re hoping to reunite this kitten with its family. If you recognize the kitten or know who the owner may be, please contact Shelton CT Animal Control at (203) 924-2501.

A huge thank you to Mark and his Stratford Dunkin crew for providing coffee, hot chocolate and donuts for our firefighters as they battled a structure fire early this morning!

Without hesitation, they stepped up to support our crews as always and we truly appreciate them!
