FIREFIGHTER POSITIONS GONE?
WHAT DOES THAT MEAN FOR YOUR SAFETY?

Central Mason Fire & EMS is facing potential layoffs that could eliminate a significant portion of its frontline firefighters.

These cuts will impact emergency response throughout Mason County and Shelton.
Our communities deserves answers.
* How will the department ensure no emergency response times increase?
* Will fewer fire engines and ambulances be available?
* What alternatives have been considered to protect your emergency services?

📢 WE ASK YOU TO PLEASE ATTEND THE NEXT FIRE COMMISSIONERS MEETING.

What is the Fire Commissioner’s role in the fire service?
Fire Commissioners are locally elected officials who serve on the governing board of a fire protection district. They don’t fight fires or run day-to-day operations — that’s the job of the Fire Chief and the firefighters.
Instead, they focus on leadership, oversight, and making sure your fire district stays financially secure and accountable to the community.
Here’s what they typically do:
âś… Set the annual budget and property tax levy
âś… Hire, evaluate, and (if needed) replace the Fire Chief
âś… Approve policies, long term planning, and all purchases
âś… Oversee facilities, equipment, and service levels
âś… Ensure the district is transparent and responsive to the public
âś… Advocate for the district at the local, state, and federal levels
Central Mason has 5 commissioners who serve staggered 6-year terms. They are elected by you, the voters who live in Central Mason.
Their next meeting is Tuesday, October 20th, 2026, at 5pm.
Station 58 in downtown Shelton
122 W Franklin St, Shelton WA 98584

Hope to see you there!

Despite the recent turmoil and adversity, many of the IAFF Local 2394 Central Mason members (some not in photos) attended the PNW Fire Conference on their own, all of them paying for admission, lodging, and travel out of their own pockets so they could attend.
*your IAFF L2394 Central Mason members registered for the conference back in June for the October event, and ranked the agency #4 in highest attendees from a single agency*

The conference is one of the biggest in the PNW area with an attendance of over 300+ this year and spans over 4 days, with two days of lectures from various national fire service leaders and subject matter experts, followed up by either 2 days of a Leadership Academy or 2 days of hands-on training… some which started at 8a and did not finish till 8p, training all day long.

These members took the initiative to learn more about the job, their roles and responsibilities, hone and improve their skills & understanding, discover more efficient techniques to be used, and bring back the knowledge and skills to better protect the communities and citizens they took the oath and swore to respond to, protect, rescue, and serve.
