We live this every day. They all deserve love.

We have some sad news to report today as one of our animals was helped to cross the Rainbow Bridge.

We shared Amethyst back in August after she was returned to us. She was adopted as a kitten 7 years earlier and came back obese but seemingly healthy. We got her on a weight management plan and she was doing well.
Unfortunately the weight caused issues that were most likely triggered by stress from being back in the shelter environment.
She developed hepatic lipidosis (or fatty liver syndrome). We did try some meds and other things after an ER visit, but a follow up vet visit today showed us how badly her liver functioning had become and jaundice had set in.
The best thing to do for her was to let her cross over with staff by her side.
Thank you to Clarksburg Vet and All Pets Cremation for their compassion.

Let this be an educational lesson as well - to keep your pets weight under control because obesity in any living being can stress and over whelm the body.

Rest in Peace sweet girl.

More about Hepatic Lidiposis: • The Trigger: When a cat goes without food for 3 to 4 days (or eats very little), the body begins breaking down stored body fat for energy.
• Overwhelming the Liver: This flood of fat moves into the bloodstream and gets processed by the liver. In cats, this process quickly overwhelms the liver cells.
• Obesity Risk: Overweight and obese cats are at a much higher risk because they have a larger amount of stored fat to mobilize.

This is the second cat this year we have encountered with this. And it is devastating to the cat, and to us.

We need some volunteer help in a BIG WAY! And not with the animals this time - but of course it benefits them.

First moving help. We need to move some kennels/racks (very heavy) and some tables and equipment (also heavy) to our new clinic space. Someone with a trailer and several strong people will be needed. We will have to coordinate a time to meet at our spay/neuter clinic to get these items inside.

We need group to help put together a shed and a new meet/greet playyard for our property. Not heavy work, just a little tedious.

Also to hang a new HEAVY hose reel in our dog runs. We need a few Strong people to help hold and then get it mounted into the cement wall.

We also have changed our front office space and will at some point need help patching holes, and then repainting.
