Washington Alliance for Better Schools (WABS) is a collaborative of eleven school districts working on improving K-12 education.

Mission: Washington Alliance for Better Schools (WABS) leads a partnership of school districts, industry, and community dedicated to ensuring students furthest from opportunity can pursue a future that embraces their strengths, passions, and dreams. The following districts are members of WABS:

70 students. 3 hospitals. One big week of healthcare career exploration! 🩺✨

Spokane Public Schools students visited Providence health system - Holy Family Hospital, Sacred Heart Medical Center, and St. Luke’s Rehabilitation Medical Center to get hands-on with pharmacy tools and respiratory therapy, go behind the scenes in sterile processing and rehab spaces, and hear how caregivers found their own career paths.

A huge thank you to the teams at each hospital, to Providence for being such a strong partner, and to Spokane Public Schools for helping make these experiences possible.

🎉 35 families. 19 schools. One shared goal: stronger, more connected school communities.

Huge congratulations to the families who graduated from the Everett Public Schools.WA Natural Leaders Academy last week! Over three weeks, they worked together to design projects built on connection, belonging, and new leadership opportunities in their school communities. These leadership projects are already coming to life, and we can’t wait to see the impact they’ll have for students and families!

Kudos to Joi Odom Grant, Kailani Rands, Diana Martin, Sandra Mejia, and the entire Everett Public Schools family engagement team for leading this work with so much care and dedication.

We’re kicking off another year of WABS Career Tours!

Renton High School students recently visited King County IT (KCIT) to explore tech careers, try hands-on activities, and connect with professionals in fields like cybersecurity and hardware repair. 💻

A huge thank-you to KCIT and Renton School District for partnering with WABS to connect students with real-world career pathways and future opportunities!

What a night! More than 70 Mukilteo School District students and family members and 24 industry volunteers packed the room Tuesday night for the launch of WABS’ Family Career Night program - and the energy was contagious. Students connected their own strengths and passions to real career paths, while families walked away with tools and resources to help guide their students’ high school planning.

Huge thanks to our incredible volunteers from Boeing, DLR Group, and Sno-Isle TECH Center who shared their career insights and experiences with students and families. And special shout out to Linda Hapgood and her in Washington team for helping to bring together such a fantastic volunteer group. 🚀

✨ Last week, Everett Public Schools.WA families kicked off three weeks of leadership and connection through the Natural Leaders Academy! Families from 26 schools shared reflections and ideas on supporting students through their educational journey. They also began envisioning what leadership looks like for them - at home, in their schools, and across their community.

Huge shoutout to Joi Odom Grant, Kailani Rands, Diana Martin, and Sandra Mejia for their incredible work getting this program off the ground.

Are you a hands-on leader who loves organizing events, managing details, and collaborating with community partners to make an impact for young people? WABS seeks a passionate and experienced Project Manager II to manage student and family programs and events, including Sound Careers in Healthcare (SCIH) - one of the region’s most dynamic career-connected learning events. This role will be the connective tissue between school districts, healthcare employers, postsecondary institutions, and community volunteers, ensuring that every student who walks through the door has an experience that feels personal, relevant, and full of possibility.

"Grant funds supported bus transportation for 150 Edmonds School District students to visit local employers as part of the Career Tours program during the 2025-26 school year.

Students from Meadowdale, Mountlake Terrace, and Lynnwood high schools toured 5 local employers—including Edmonds College, Community Transit, and Perteet—to learn more about local careers and post-secondary pathways, and start building their professional pathways."

Washington Alliance for Better Schools received $4,500 last fall.

Do you love working on behalf of kids, energizing volunteers, and keeping complex projects running like clockwork? This is the role for you.

As Project Manager II, you'll personally own the planning and ex*****on of WABS's after-school elementary STEM program — a 4-week experience reaching 2,500 students in grades 3–5 across 50+ schools and 12 districts statewide. You'll help bring real-world STEM careers to life through hands-on problem solving, facilitated by 200+ trained industry volunteers you recruit and inspire to share their own career journeys.
