SURPRISE! Meet Caddo Parish's 2026-2027 Support Persons of the Year!

There were smiles, cheers, and some unforgettable surprises this morning as Superintendent Keith Burton and district leaders visited three campuses to celebrate employees who make a difference every day!

Elementary: Anthony Rainey, Head Custodian, Westwood Elementary

Middle: Gwendolyn Spanier, Paraprofessional, Keithville Elementary/Middle

High: Tony Abraham, Head Custodian, Caddo Parish Magnet High

From arriving before sunrise to prepare campuses for students to mentoring young people, supporting classrooms, and giving countless hours beyond the school day, these three employees show that making a difference goes far beyond a job description.

Their dedication doesn't go unnoticed by the students and colleagues whose lives they impact every day.

Help us congratulate each of our winners on this well-deserved recognition!

🏈 Workforce Wednesday Spotlight: Tyianna Dukes!

Before beginning her internship, Huntington High School’s Tyianna Dukes knew the Independence Bowl primarily for football. Now, she’s discovering how much work happens behind the scenes to create a great experience for players and fans!

As one of 32 students participating in this fall’s CaddoWorks internship program, Tyianna is learning about the patience, planning, and teamwork needed to keep everything organized. She shared her gratitude for the Independence Bowl team, including Missy Setters and Erik Evenson, for helping her learn and grow.

Her advice to students considering an internship?

“Don't give it any second thoughts. You get to experience stuff you never would have before and learn a whole lot.”

Thank you to our Independence Bowl partners for opening doors for students and helping them discover opportunities beyond the classroom!

Join us in celebrating Captain Shreve senior Ashton Pouncy!

Ashton has been named a 2027 Coca-Cola Scholars Program Semifinalist!

She is the only student from Caddo Parish and one of just nine in Louisiana to earn the semifinalist distinction. Only about 1% of applicants advance to this stage, placing Ashton among the most elite students in the country.

Join us in celebrating Ashton’s achievements and cheering her on as she advances in the selection process!

Louisiana’s progress is worth celebrating, and here in Caddo, we have our own reasons to be proud.

As the state earns national recognition for academic recovery in reading and math, Caddo is continuing to invest in student success through additional math instructional time, strong curriculum, teacher coaching and targeted support.

On the 2026 LEAP assessments, 26 Caddo schools increased their overall percentage of students scoring Mastery and above.

We are proud of our students’ growth and the people who make it possible. Together, we will keep building on that progress so every student has the opportunity to succeed.

“Only one state, Louisiana, can boast pandemic recovery in both math and reading.”
- The State of the American Student 2026

A new national report finds that while most states still haven't recovered academically, Louisiana is the exception. The study also ranks Louisiana No. 3 in math achievement and places our state's early literacy policies among the most comprehensive in the country.

The progress is real. So is the work that lies ahead. Read the full report: https://ow.ly/4IGQ50ZZRWj

Our October School Board meeting gave us plenty to celebrate across Caddo Schools!

We recognized Larry Duncan III of Southwood High School as our Student Leader of the Month representing District 10. Ranked first in his class, Larry is a student-athlete and National Honor Society president who leads through hard work and perseverance.

Southern Hills Elementary students Luke Ojeda, Warren Covington, Amiya Jones-Stevenson, Angeline Cardona, and Laila James led the Pledge of Allegiance, and the Caddo Magnet High School Choir, directed by Jennifer Jackson, shared their talents through two musical performances.

We also celebrated our 15 National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists from Caddo Magnet High School and recognized Southwood High School’s Purple Star designation for its support of military-connected students and families.

Congratulations to everyone recognized, and thank you to the educators and families who help our students succeed. These photos capture just a few of the many reasons we are proud of Caddo Schools!

Excellence. Every One. Every Day.

Our district is proud to recognize our September attendance award winners and their average daily attendance:

🏆 Elementary: A.C. Steere Elementary — 96.2%
🏆 Middle: Ridgewood Middle — 97%
🏆 High School: North Caddo High School — 94%
