The Grant County Office of Emergency Management would like to inform residents that the Gila National Forest, Silver City Ranger District, in partnership with the State of New Mexico, will initiate mechanical thinning in the Bear Mountain Road area beginning Monday, October 19th. The project includes 157 acres of mastication with heavy machinery in two units near Bear Mountain Road to create shaded fuel breaks in the vicinity of private lands. This includes 40 acres along the north side of Bear Mountain Road, about a half mile past the Bear Mountain Road/Cottage San Road split and 117 acres south of Bear Mountain Road, west of Bear Mountain Ranch.
