When the cold sets in, the people who show up for our unhoused neighbors make all the difference. This November, Soul Good Coffee in Skokie Soul Good Coffee is showing up in a big way for the Niles Township Respite Center!

During your coffee run this month, you’ll have the option to round up your purchase. Every extra cent collected goes straight to our Respite Center, and if you have a new coat, wool socks or a warm hat to spare (men’s L and XL are what we need most), Soul Good is collecting them so the people we serve can stay warm through the winter.

We also hope you’ll pull up a chair with us at Soul Good on Thursday, November 12, from 3:45 to 5 PM. It’s a chance to talk openly about homelessness in our community, the growing push to criminalize it, and what really happens inside the Respite Center, with our staff, Supervisor Bonnie Bonnie Kahn Ognisanti and State Rep. Kevin Olickal State Representative Kevin John Olickal there to listen and answer your questions.

To the whole Soul Good team: THANK YOU!
You’ve turned a neighborhood coffee shop into a gathering place for generosity, and we’re so grateful to have you in our corner. Be sure to stop in and support this amazingly supportive small business We can’t wait to see everyone there this November!

We were honored to join local leaders, community business owners, and non-profit organizers at the Skokie Chamber of Commerce Legislative Breakfast.

Niles Township Supervisor, Bonnie Kahn Ognisanti spoke about the financial stress experienced by everyone throughout our communities. People are making tough choices about paying bills and where to spend their money and it ultimately impacts our small businesses, and community as a whole. Thankfully we have a strong support network of local resources, services, and leaders fighting for more.

Our first Parents’ Night Out was a hit! Date nights were had, errands were run, along with some well-needed “me time!” 30 Niles Township kiddos enjoyed face painting, pizza, a movie, crafts, and outdoor play, and we were happy to have them! Thanks to our Township Supervisor Bonnie Kahn Ognisanti and Township Trustee Marie Benyamin for hosting along with our student volunteers!

We’ll definitely do another one, so be on the lookout! What would you do with a few hours of free childcare?

In less than a year, we’ve had over 2,000 more neighbors come to rely on our Food Pantry Niles Township Food Pantry stemming from the cuts to SNAP benefits, and now Medicaid. Working families are making the impossible decision of whether to pay a bill or buy food. It shouldn’t be this way. Please help us keep our shelves stocked!
