We’re proud to recognize National Case Management Week, happening until October 17!

This weeklong celebration serves to recognize case managers, educate the public about case management, and increase recognition of the significant contribution of case managers to quality care.

At SCES, case managers provide a vital point of connection between our network and the people we serve, meeting with people in their homes, ensuring they receive the services they need, and forming supportive relationships over time.

Thank you, case managers!

Today is Ageism Awareness Day, a time to draw attention to the impacts of ageism and affirm our commitment to creating a more age-inclusive society.

We are all aging, and at SCES we believe that we all deserve to age well. Unfortunately, ageism is one of the most widespread and socially accepted forms of prejudice. A 2020 poll found that 82% of adults aged 50-80 experience ageism daily, which can have negative outcomes on health conditions and depression. Ageism can also worsen other forms of discrimination, such as racism, sexism and ableism. All of these biases can have resounding effects on older adults’ health and wellbeing.

SCES is committed to showcasing and celebrating the full breadth of the aging experience. Together, we strive to build a society that values aging and ensures that everyone has access to the supports they need to live with dignity.

Did you know October 4-10 is Digital Inclusion Week? This week is dedicated to raising awareness about digital equity and the vital importance of inclusion in our increasingly digital world. Tech access is important for people of all ages and plays a critical role in our lives, helping us stay connected and engaged in our communities.

SCES is proud to offer a series of pre-recorded workshops that cover a variety of tech topics. The easy-to-follow videos cover skills like using accessibility features, staying safe on social media, and using popular apps.

Each year, SCES assists dozens of clients through Money Management, a program that offers confidential financial services, like bill paying and budgeting, that help keep people housed and tied to the communities they love.

One client is Arthur, who always shared a close bond with his brother and Representative Payee, Thomas*. Thomas helped Arthur manage his monthly Social Security income and ensured rent for their shared apartment was paid on time each month.

When Thomas passed earlier this year, Arthur suddenly had no way to access his funds or pay the rent. While grieving, he struggled to afford groceries, and his landlord soon began eviction proceedings.

Thankfully, Arthur was referred to SCES' Money Management program. Our staff provided grocery gift cards, expedited his Social Security Rep. Payee application, and connected him with rental assistance resources. Arthur's eviction case was dismissed and he now has access to in-home supports, including meal preparation and laundry services.

With your support, we can continue providing Money Management services to people just like Arthur. Your gift will go even further this fall, thanks to a generous match from East Cambridge Savings Bank!
