Today, we recognize and thank the dedicated men and women who answer the call, no matter the time, weather, or circumstances.

We want to extend a special thank you to our neighboring mutual aid fire departments, Sheriff’s Department, Vermont State Police, and Rescue agencies for their continued dedication, teamwork, and support.

We are fortunate to work alongside such incredible first responders who share the same commitment to protecting and serving our communities.

Thank you for always answering the call, having our backs, and being there when it matters most. ❤️

🚒 South Hero Fire Department – Incident Update

Just before 10:00 AM this morning, the South Hero Fire Department was dispatched to a fully involved vehicle fire.

Upon arrival, crews found a Ford pickup truck fully engulfed in flames, with exposures threatening a nearby residence and propane tank. Firefighters worked to bring the fire under control and successfully contained the incident to the vehicle.

Thankfully, there were no injuries reported, and the fire did not extend to the surrounding exposures.

The South Hero Fire Department would like to extend our sincere thanks to our mutual aid partners for their assistance and support:

Please be aware that lake view road will have sections closed for the next few weeks while the road crew is replacing the roadway. They are starting on the west shore end. Information was also sent on front porch forum. Residents on lake view will be contacted by the road crew.

During Fire Prevention Week, take a few seconds to check where you’re charging phones, tablets, laptops, gaming controllers, and other devices. Keep them on a hard, flat surface—not beds, couches, pillows, or blankets where heat can build up.

It’s a small change that can make a big difference. Charge smart. Charge safe. 🔌🔥

Cheap chargers might save you a few bucks—but they aren’t worth the risk. 🔌🔥

For Fire Prevention Week, we’re reminding everyone to be smart about what you use to power your devices. Not every charger, cord, or replacement battery is made to the same safety standards.

🔋 Use the charger that came with your device or one specifically approved by the manufacturer.
⚠️ Skip cheap, uncertified replacements that may not have proper safety protections.
🔌 Check your cords regularly. Frayed, cracked, exposed, or damaged cords should be replaced—not taped up and reused.
🔥 If a charger gets unusually hot, smells strange, sparks, or makes unusual noises, unplug it and stop using it.
🛏️ Charge on a hard, stable surface and keep chargers and devices away from bedding, furniture, and other things that can burn.

That bargain charger isn’t a bargain if it starts a fire.

Fire Prevention Week is a great reminder that small actions can make a BIG impact. 🔥🔋

Lithium-ion batteries power so many of the things we use every day—from phones and laptops to power tools, e-bikes, and scooters—but they need to be charged and handled safely.

A few simple habits can help prevent a fire:

🔋 Use the right charger designed for your device.
🚪 Keep exits clear and never charge e-bikes or scooters where they could block your way out.
🛏️ Charge on a hard, stable surface—not on beds, couches, pillows, or other materials that can burn.
🌙 Avoid charging high-capacity batteries unattended or overnight.
⚠️ Know the warning signs. Stop using a battery if you notice swelling, excessive heat, leaking, strange odors, popping noises, or changes in shape or color.
☀️ Keep batteries away from extreme heat and direct sunlight.
♻️ Never put lithium-ion batteries in the regular trash. Take them to an appropriate recycling or disposal location.

When it comes to battery safety, a few simple choices can prevent a serious fire.

For tools and rides, charge outside. Small action. Big impact. 🚒
