The Lake Zoar Authority is a multi-town organization consisting of representatives from the four towns that border the lake (Monroe, Newtown, Oxford, & Southbury) tasked with the goals of improving water quality and promoting safe boating on the lake.

ALL operators and passengers of manually propelled vessels are required to wear a USCG approved personal flotation device (PFD) between October 1 and May 31 on CT waters.

NOTICE: Beginning on October 17, 2026, FirstLight will initiate a drawdown of Lake Zoar at the Stevenson Dam to conduct its annual maintenance and inspection activities. The normal summer operating range of the station is from 103’-100.5’, and the drawdown will target an elevation of 98.5’. The drawdown will lower lake levels to minimum pond levels and aim to return to normal operating elevations on October 26, 2026, as river conditions allow. All homeowners are encouraged to remove structures, boat lifts, and docks from Lake Zoar to prevent ice or flood damage from occurring during the winter months.

Ditto!

It's very important to remember that any external lights other than your navigation lights should NOT be turned on while you are underway at night. Also, blue lights are only allowed for police / patrol boats. Red lights are only allowed for fire / search & rescue boats.

Several people have asked me about a large police, fire and dive team presence near the Stevenson Dam the last couple of days. Unfortunately, the search for a missing person just below the dam came to an end earlier today with the recovery of a body in the river just off Route 34 in Seymour. No further details have been made public at this time.
