Enjoy this little break in your evening while you watch and listen to a porcupine with a stuffy nose eat an avocado.

You're welcome. (Check out the first comment 😂)

Last night, we got to do something we don’t get nearly enough time to do during wildlife season… stop, take a breath, eat ALL the food, and celebrate the incredible humans who make Lucky Rehabilitation Center what it is.

We had a beautiful tribute video that reminded us why we do what we do, a ridiculous amount of food, the first annual Rehab Olympics, awards ceremony and tons of laughs!

The rehab Olympics were between 2 teams - The Cellar Dwellers (those who started with LRC when we were still in the basement) AND The Barn Rats (Those who started after we moved into the barn in 2022). It was competitive, to say the least!
The Cellar Dwellers defeated the Barn Rats in a crushing victory of 90 acorns to 80 acorns.

Congratulations to all of our award winners ! Each of you brings something special to this team, and we are so grateful for everything you do. (I'm sorry I had no video for the acceptance of the Shift Savior, Dispatcher and Support Tech awards)

To our entire LRC family: thank you for showing up, putting in the hours, answering the calls, transporting animals, cleaning cages, feeding babies, celebrating releases, and supporting each other through the hard days. This work takes a special kind of person, and we are incredibly lucky to have you.

Season 2026, you were A LOT.

Here's to our amazing team, the animals who made this season unforgettable, and a little well-deserved rest before we do it all over again.

WE LOVE OUR LRC CREW!

Enjoy the video!

The greeters on the way to the morning feeding. Be careful, Wilbur. Thanksgiving is coming.

Rocky came to us as a very young barred owl fledgling after being hit by a car. But we suspect the accident wasn’t the whole story. We believe Rocky may have already been down and vulnerable due to rodenticide poisoning when the collision happened.

Rocky needed medical care, treatment, and time to recover. Thankfully, he got all three.

Last week, Rocky finally got to trade his rehab accommodations for the great outdoors and return to the wild where he belongs!

There’s nothing quite like the feeling we get when we release these animals. Animals who most definitely would not be alive without us and this village of followers (you!) supporting us every step along the way.

Time for a quick rant, though...

This is the part that’s so hard for me to understand.

Humans use poison to kill mice, but mice are a natural food source for owls, hawks, and countless other predators. When those predators eat poisoned rodents, they suffer the same fate.

We are poisoning the very wildlife that would naturally help control rodent populations in the first place.

We kill the mice, we poison the predators that eat them, and we lose the very balance nature has already worked out.

Make it make sense.

Rocky was lucky. So many others aren't

Fly free, Rocky! We’re rooting for you

Why is this legal?

How is a human being capable of doing this to another living, feeling being?

These are the questions running through my mind as I look at this young fox, caught in a Conibear trap with his head being crushed.

I am angry. I am heartbroken. And honestly, I am exhausted from seeing animals suffer at the hands of humans.

We continue to call these things “traps,” as though that somehow makes them less horrific. But there is nothing humane about an animal being caught, crushed, terrified, and left to suffer.

This fox didn’t know what was happening. He didn’t understand why he couldn’t escape. He was simply trying to live.

We have the ability to do better.

We have the ability to choose compassion over cruelty.

And I will never understand why, in a world where we know better, we continue to accept this as acceptable.

Just your typical bonding experience when the mother-daughter team are left alone for the last feeding in the rehab.

Mom making questionable choices and poking pokey things.

Daughter (who will set broken bones, remove 1000s of maggots and be covered in animal bodily fluids without batting an eye) shuts down while hurting her mother 🤣🤣.

Funniest night ever.

(Cute squirrels for attention)

Hello everyone! We’re looking for a volunteer to transport a Canada goose from our facility to Syracuse, Ny. Lucy goose is non-releasable due to a condition called “angel wing”. We have found her a forever home with other geese who have the same or similar disabling conditions. No direct animal handling will be required, and LRC can provide compensation for gas.

Thanks in advance!

Another beautiful release today. Terminator (patient of the day on 8/27) hit the skies again to be his majestic, wild self! What a gorgeous bird!

Some pre-release headshots are also included to show off his quite charming (judgmental) personality.
