Arrest Made in 2015 Homicide of Betty Jean King
BULLOCH COUNTY, GA — On June 6, 2015, a family member discovered the body of Betty Jean King inside her residence on George Road in Bulloch County. Ms. King had suffered multiple blunt force injuries. Deputies and investigators with the Bulloch County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene, processed evidence, and began an extensive investigation.
Although investigators submitted evidence to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) Crime Lab and conducted numerous interviews, the case eventually went cold. Over the following years, investigators and crime scene technicians continued reviewing witness statements and physical evidence in an effort to develop new leads and bring justice to Ms. King and her family.
Through their continued efforts, investigators ultimately established probable cause against Perry Edwards. Arrest warrants were issued for Edwards on June 16, 2026, and the Bulloch County Grand Jury indicted him on September 20, 2026. On October 29, 2026, Edwards was booked into the Bulloch County Jail, where he is currently being held awaiting arraignment.
District Attorney Catherine Sumner has formally charged Edwards with Malice Murder, Felony Murder (3 counts), Aggravated Assault, Aggravated Battery, and False Imprisonment.
Sheriff Noel Brown and District Attorney Catherine Sumner commended the investigators and crime scene technicians for their dedication and persistence in continuing to work this case over the past 11 years.
"Our investigators never gave up on finding answers," said Sheriff Brown. "Their dedication reflects our commitment to seeking justice for Betty Jean King and bringing long-awaited closure to her family."
