Have you ever felt frustrated with your elders, then felt guilty because you know how much you love them? ❤️
Sometimes, we forget that we're looking at life through different generations, experiences, and perspectives.
As our elders grow older, changes in their health, memory, emotions, and independence may affect how they communicate and respond to the world around them. What we see as stubbornness may sometimes come from fear, uncertainty, or simply a different way of understanding things.
But let's remember something, too: we're human. We have our own responsibilities, stress, and moments of exhaustion. Feeling frustrated doesn't mean we don't care.
So, how can we understand them better?
🤍 Listen with patience. Not every conversation needs to become a correction.
🤍 Look beyond the behavior. Try to understand what they might be feeling or struggling with.
🤍 Communicate with kindness. Give them time to express themselves and make them feel heard.
🤍 Give yourself grace. You can love your elders deeply and still need rest, boundaries, and support.
Understanding our elders doesn't mean agreeing with everything they say or do. It means choosing empathy while respecting both their needs and our own.
One day, we'll grow older, too. May we learn to meet our elders with the same patience, dignity, and compassion we'd hope to receive ourselves. ❤️
