The free community event will take place from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center of Wisconsin Rapids. Advance registration is required.

Today is National First Responders Day, a time to recognize the people who answer the call when our communities need them most.

Honoring first responders also means investing in the training and preparation behind every response. That’s at the heart of the Nexus Public Safety Center campaign: creating more opportunities for current and future first responders to train together in realistic, hands-on environments and prepare for the challenges they may face in the field.

As we recognize firefighters, law enforcement officers, EMTs, paramedics, and other emergency professionals today, we’re also looking ahead to how we can help prepare and support those who will protect our communities for generations to come.

Emergency response on a farm can look very different from a typical call, and this past weekend, Mid-State worked with Pittsville Fire Company and the National Farm Medicine Center to help responders prepare for those unique challenges.

Agriculture Rescue Training returned to Marshfield with 80 registered participants from 33 agencies across four states. Over two days, responders built skills through classroom learning and hands-on scenarios involving tractor rollovers, equipment extrication, manure pits, grain bins, and large animals.

That same focus on realistic, scenario-based training is also helping shape Mid-State Technical College’s Nexus Public Safety Center project, which is designed to expand training opportunities for current and future first responders.

Mid-State Technical College is proud to announce a $100,000 commitment from Gamber-Johnson to support the Nexus Public Safety Center and the future of public safety training across central Wisconsin.

The Stevens Point manufacturer has long supported first responders by manufacturing rugged mounting systems, docking stations, and vehicle equipment used by law enforcement, fire, and emergency response professionals. Now, Gamber-Johnson is partnering with Mid-State to invest in the education, training, and resources that prepare current and future public safety professionals to serve.

This commitment also highlights the important role local businesses can play in bringing Nexus to life and supporting a project designed to serve communities across central Wisconsin for years to come.
