The Stokesdale Fire Department is located in Northwest Guilford County. We are an ISO class 2 rated district.

We are a combination department operating out of 1 station covering 36 sq miles in Guilford and Rockingham counties. We are staffed with 32 volunteers supplemented by 16 full time personnel and 2 part time positions providing fire protection, medical emergency care, and fire/injury prevention education with in our district.

Guilford County Fire Districts need your support when you vote!

This year you will see an opportunity to vote For or against a one-quarter of one percent sales tax increase for Guilford County. As voters, we have seen similiar on the ballot before and have voted no for new taxes. Guilford County property owners then shouldered the burden with substantial tax increases.

Many of us, myself included, are adamantly against tax increases because we feel like we already support enough waste and unnecessary spending in government.

I humbly ask you to consider the impact of a minor bump in Sales Tax from the current 6.75% to an even 7%. Sales tax unlike property tax is paid by everyone who buys certain services and goods here in Guilford County. Travellers, College Students, Visitors, Renters, and anyone else who buys these items can share in the burden and give you; the people who already fund the local Schools, Government, and Fire Districts a helping hand.

Over the past few years costs for goods and services have steadily outpaced income. We all have more month at the end of the money than money at the end of the month. Your local Fire Districts are in the same boat. Fire truck costs have doubled in the last 7 years and they are being pushed to their service limits because of the cost to replace. The current Fire District funding is a Value-based tax system from the 1950s, when local departments began forming. That system has been overrun by the costs to provide services today. The new slight increase in Sales Tax only, would provide funding for Teachers, GTCC, and most importantly an estimated 5 million dollars for Guilford County Fire Districts. This money would be divided amongst all departments and used for equipment replacement programs.This is from anyone who spends here in Guilford County, not just the property taxpayers.

Please help us by voting FOR the one quarter of one percent sales tax increase this year.

Our hearts are heavy for our brothers and sisters at Huntsville. They lost an icon of the department and the community. Chief Wilson was one of a kind and will be missed. Please pray for the Huntsville Volunteer Fire Department and the surrounding community in these hard times.

Today, we lost a truly good man and a dedicated leader. Chief Danny Wilson passed away this morning, leaving behind a legacy of service, sacrifice, and care for those around him. Please keep his family, friends, fellow firefighters, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him in your thoughts and prayers in the days ahead. This one hits close to home, and it is a heartbreaking loss for so many.

Chief, thank you for your service, your leadership, and the countless lives you touched along the way. Watch over us and keep us safe until we meet again.

Rest easy, Chief. You will be deeply missed and never forgotten.
